I was thinking, they haven't said how they will determine the draft order for the 2021 MLB draft yet, but there is a really good chance the Jays could end up with another top 10 or top 5 pick.

Vlad looks pretty big, doubtful the pandemic helped his training program. Hopefully he can reduce the ground outs to SS and 3B.

Also players I forgot about: Travis Shaw, Teoscar Hernandez,

It's too bad, but Vlad will never get in shape I don't think.

Just pray he can hit like advertised. A .772 OPS is not going to cut it when he gets pushed to 1B/DH and provides little to no defensive or base running value.

What did Cecil Fielder look like at the same age?

Just curious about the trajectory. If he turns into Cecil, that would not be so bad.

Vlad is a future 1B. The sooner they figure that out, the better. They have enough infield prospects.

He’s a big boy- sure, he could probably stand to lose a few pounds, but it was never realistic to expect the guy to drop 20 or 30 bills.

(Donaldson sure would look good on the hot corner - why did they so completely mishandle the former MVP? Because Anthopolous picked him up?)

Yeap. He's going to end up on 1B or DH there is no doubt in my mind. But like I said, his bat needs to be better than what we saw so far. If he hits like Fielder (career .827 OPS) then it will somewhat make up for being an overweight base runner and average to below average D value player. Looks like Fielder played at about 230lbs too, where as Vlad is listed as a generous 250lbs.

When Vlad was rated as the #1 prospect in baseball, I don't think any of us was hoping he'd top out at 17.2 career WAR either.

Vlad Jr is 21 years old.

He’s a baby and he has a .772 OPS.

He’s going to get better.

Edit: Aroldis Chapman has never thrown more pitches in a single at bat than he does to Vlad right here.

I don't disagree that he can get better. The question mark with him is conditioning which severely can limit his ceiling. The game has changed with that being pretty unacceptable for long term durability. The organization and he himself has to really be pushed to maintain a good diet.

Bingo. Him being in shape and taking care of himself could be the difference between him topping out as a lifetime 20 WAR guy whos done at 32 or a lifetime 60+ WAR guy who is still crushing basballs at 35+ like Miggy.

I think the first step to achieving that is telling Vlad he’s a first baseman. I think this group of Jays will achieve something special if Guerrero is the 3rd-5th best player on the team - if Bichette, Pearson and Martin occupy the top-3 (plus the other infielder, not Biggio, whose name escapes me, the really good prospect who’s also a SS), and Vladdy is just the heaviest bat in the heart of the order, I think the AL East is in for a brawl.

Though, not for nothing, Big Papi played until he was 42 and has never once had the physique of anything but a food truck operator.

Vladdy is a masher, and by the time he’s 30, I’ll be 40, so I don’t care so much about his longevity at this juncture. 21-30 are going to be a show.

Way to early to judge anything in terms of conditioning, lack of defense etc...

He will go into this season with way less pressure....

He did appear to be taking his training seriously this offseason prior to COVID, not surprising a guy like him might have put on a little weight through the quarantine though.

The kid is just naturally thick in the butt and legs, he might never lose that. His upper body this year and at the end of last season was in much better shape than it was coming into spring training last year.
