Yeah that deal kinda sucks. Gonna really hurt the Jays at some point.
But for now it’s a premier player at a premium position that checked a ton of boxes. Makes their team quite a bit better and shows a huge commitment from their ownership and management.
Awesome work to get him. Finally Jays have a chance to be good for some time.

I'm not worried about the last year. Hopefully the deal is more front loaded but I'm just happy that a top tier free agent was willing to come to the Jays and that the front office and ownership were willing to pay the price. Plus it fills a huge need.

Mets top offer was 6 years $125 million reportedly.

Just awesome! I don't really care that much about the money on the deal because Rogers has deep pockets and need to overpay to attract free agents. It's very exciting that this is happening. Still have all our prospects!!

Rosenthal just tweeted that the Jays are still trying to land Springers buddy Brantley. Wow.
They must have some trades in the hopper if they want to add another outfielder.

As much as I preferred Realmuto, it’s like picking between Superman and Batman at this point.
This is a massive get, and a really exciting moment in Jays history.
The contract is rich and lengthy, but by then our window of contention will have likely passed by anyhow. Didn’t have to sell prospects and futures and in a cap-less league, the only ones that should care about the $ figure is Rogers.
As a fan I couldn’t be more excited.
Unless we also sign Realmuto LOL.

One of my favorite Astros so congrats to the Blue Jays. The stain of cheating didn’t hurt his pocketbook at all.
He was very popular in the clubhouse and seemed like a good guy. Over swinging is his Achilles heel and he will go through some rough stretches. But he shows up in big games.

Obviously the money isn’t there for Realmuto or Bauer now, but I’d love Brantley on the team. A guy who can still hit but is a veteran. Sounds like a sound fit to me.

Brantley hitting lead off would be as good as you could get. I would actually get more excited with that signing with his consistency. I really have my fingers crossed for that.

The way Brantley makes contact you want him up with men on base IMO. Springer has hit lead off his entire career.

With this signing, and Yates, the Blue Jays are only a couple of million above league average (104M), with a full roster. Now, it's player in player out in terms of contracts, or moving players from the active to the 40-man to keep the clubhouse legal. Benefits of a young core.
edit : Just noticed that the Dodgers are at $185M and the Indians are at $23M. What a weird league.

Jays have tons of payroll room still , especially if they move Grichuk
They can easily fit another huge player if they choose too

As of right now Grichuk is the 4th outfielder.
That's a deep outfield.
If they sign Brantley a move needs to be made, and I imagine it would be either Gurriel or Teo plus prospects for a top half of the rotation type starting pitcher.
I really hope they sign Brantley now.

6 years 150 is a massive overpayment. But at the end of the day it’s not my money and I’m just thrilled the Jays are actually spending money and not pretending to spend money. Add this with the Yates signing and it’s been a pretty solid week.

So this puts the Jays around 110 million in payroll. For a team that has said they can spend up to 170 in the coming years there’s lots of room to spend before the kids contracts are due.
