He was arguably their best goalie in the pre-season.
Hextall took the "let him marinate" approach, and even though Philly has gone through a carousel of injuries at goalie, they have passed over him for recalls. I'm wondering if Hart now gets the nod with the amount of injuries they currently have in net.

That's where my mind is at right now too. Maybe both with Quenneville on the open market.

They are never going to contend until they solve goaltending. It's been their Achilles for decades.
Their defence isn't going to contend with too many in the post-season either, but they are always the team I'm looking to as 'things could be worse...' seemingly every time we have major goaltending worries.

Chuck Fletcher and Ron Francis among the early names as potential GM’s in Philly. Both experienced men. Francis is in the process of divesting equity in Carolina.
-I wouldn't rush Carter Hart. Give him some professional experience in the AHL. There core is set for the next few years -- no need to push for this year and possibly ruin him.
-The biggest joke on the Flyers is the special teams, in particular Ian Laperriere. he's been the PK coach there for ~5 years and they've consistently been bottom third. They are 30th or 31st this year. That man should not have a job.

Sounds like Holmgren is the guy still calling the shots in Philly...even though he was a tire fire as GM when he had the title.

There have been rumblings going back to the offseason that what Paul Holmgren wanted to see done on various fronts no longer jibed with Ron Hextall's determination to stay on the same course of main priorities. That was confirmed today both with the decision and related statement
I love watching ol' Don Koharski just calmly watching the melee and motion to the other players, "yeah it's ok, I got this" when he clearly did NOT have it. Man, that would never go over well these days.

So, Dave Hakstol might be the worst coach in hockey (if not, he's up there) and he survives somehow. Why wouldn't the new GM want to bring in his own guy? Especially if it's JQ? Madness.

Yup Hextall was too patient for the Flyers. I think we might see them trade some young players/prospects for immediate help.

I hope Dave Scott chokes on those words when the new guy makes some brutal trades and Philly continues to wallow in mediocrity. Hextall was building a pretty decent lineup
yeah this is not going to end well. Hextall built a heck of a prospect pool - trading those pieces for short-term help is not going to get them anywhere. Especially if Hakstol remains behind the bench.

Yeah....the Flyers look well situated right now and have some nice pieces, they should be staying the course.
Fast-tracking things like this is Oilers. This was probably unwise.
We should find out what Leah Hextall thinks about this.

(Re: Lombardi) Surprising. So he's just going to sit and "scout" for the Flyers? You'd think a guy with 2 cups in the last decade would have the itch to get back into the driver seat.

Holmgren says he will personally look around for a short-term fix in goal, maybe even before new #Flyers GM is hired. “If I can make our team better, I’d be foolish not to look at it.
