If goalies are getting more "bruised", they may need more rest more often.
Smith has an awful track record after shutouts (at least with the Flames), he's also be weak against the Blues in general.
Rittich has done well in a backup role in the past. We don't want him to get too rusty.
And even if Rittich doesn't give us the best record tonight, we might want to consider: which decision will ultimately make the Flames end up with the most wins possible?
|
Has anyone yet considered that maybe Smith was more dialed in at practice, perhaps changing Peters' mind about the starter tonight? Could be as simple as that.

Why bench a goalie that just had a shutout?

Because he has not won a game in St. Louis in 6 years?

That's always a possibility, but by that logic, we can never question the goaltending decisions. That is unless we're sitting and watching the practices with our own eyes.
Yes, generally starting the starter will give you the best chance of winning.
But then at what point does the backup give a better chance of winning?
When do you start the backup? Historical stats should probably be a at least a factor in the decision making.
The ultimate goal is to win as many games as possible. That's even more important than game-by-game decisions.

Smith came in and won a game for the team in Anaheim last year. The least they could do is come out and win one for him in St. Loo.

Anyone know what channel this is on? The Oil are on SNET West, and I don't see any programming for SNET One.
Hoping it's not SNET Flames, as it seems I can't access that on Shaw Freerange.

Anyone know of a trick to get SNET Flames on Freerange?
I'm paying extra for SNET, but I'm missing another game because it's the only SNET channel I don't get on Freerange.

I will donate $20 to CP for every goal Bennett scores tonight and also $20 for every disallowed goal Bennett scores tonight.

Unfortunately, to date, he has not been paired with any forwards that have the smarts and capability of Tkachuk, except for the one game to end last season. Backlund is a great defensive forward, very much in the Guy Carbonneau mold, but I don't see a player like Tkachuk achieving his full potential with Backlund as his pivot.
|
Not sure I agree on instincts ... I do agree on finish however.
And I worry that they are using Tkachuk in the wrong way if he's stapled to a shut down line.
But I think it's a stretch to paint Backlund as anemic ... 20 goal 50 point seasons in today's NHL is second line scoring by anyone's standards.

If you put Neal on that line (and he gets his game together) it's a two way line. Also if Jankowski can start to shoulder some shutdown responsibility (which I think he could do) on a line with any two of Dube, Frolik, Ryan or maybe even Peluso.

Boy I had to do a lot of reading back and forward before I understood what "argument tranny" was.
Sounded scary...yet intriguing...but mostly scary.
I vote for no hockey nicknaming of poster names
