Because Nick Shore played 9 games due to injuries?

Last year’s roster was better than what Hartley was able to to the playoffs. The coach was awful. Tough to say.
This year, roster additions and upgrades and new coach.
I personally think the roster is so good this year that they should make the playoffs no matter who is the coach.

Whether or not they make the playoffs is entirely dependent on the goalie.
The most under rated element of Bob Hartley's 14-15 season was his ability to know who was hot and who wasn't. He rotated Ramo and Hiller perfectly. One would falter, one would step up. He did that for six months.
If Smith doesn't get on track soon, we'll get to see if Peters has the same aptitude.

We don’t have a 1A 1B like we did. We have a 1A 2B. I don’t think anyone in the organization is overly confident with any of our backup options.

I wouldn't be against a duo of Mike Smith & Kari Lehtonen.

Running a tandem of two post-Turco Dallas Stars goalies? Why, that's practically guaranteed to work!

So long that he was the centre piece of the deal that sent Brad Richards to the Stars.
The Fake Dan Ellis would chirp him on Twitter. #MikeSmithispoor #escrow
Good times.

Matthews and Leafs trying to get things done
Friedman doesn't think it will be a 8 year contract
Leafs are not shopping Nylander and he hasn't requested a trade
Short term deal on the table. 4 year deal worth just less than $20 mil total.
NHL teams have explored offer sheet on Nylander but can't find a deal that Nylander will accept, Leafs won't match, and the RFA compensation isn't too much
Columbus has a generous offer on the table to re-sign Bobvrosky
But Bobrovsky is looking for a home run. Comparable might be Price or higher
Josh Anderson (no trade request yet) clearly is unhappy in Columbus on the 4th line
Two teams that have always shown interest are the Leafs and Habs

Habs in on both Bennett and Anderson tells me the team that deals with them first may get the best return.

Am I missing something? 4 years doesn’t sound that short term- at least for Nylander to accept sub 5- maybe two or three years at that AAV?

That's a major league low ball offer for a guy with back to back 60 point seasons.

Nylander may be willing to go low for 4 years so he can hit UFA earlier. Huge risk though, I'd rather be paid now if I could.

Good chance to do some damage with that lineup though which could add to his UFA contract.

I could be crazy but I swear I read a big part of the Nylander hold up is he wants his contract lockout proof like Tavares.
