Yes these are all correct and fair points. But it's not about hurting someone's feelings because someone makes more then them. It's about having enough money to sign Ferland, Bennet and Matty to the raises they are due. Rittich is getting a raise people. I will say this again; Hockey is a team sport with a salary cap. You don't spend more then an 8th of your cap on 1 player when you have another 21 positions to fill . You fill out a Roster and have depth down to the 4th line. That's how you hurt top heavy opponenents. You grind them to paste for a full 60 minutes, not just 22 mins when your top line is out. Look at Vegas. They have no one that is worth 12mill, but they do have 4 2nd lines.
The pengiuns have won as many cups as they have because they have the ability to find ELC players that step up and play like they are 5 year vets.

Ask is higher for Evander Kane, your not getting that for arguably the best defencemen in the league for what is suggested lol

Karlsson at 10-12, a 7 year contract, and half an ankle? No thanks

Why stop there? Add Karlsson and Ekman-Larsson.
All your top defenders are belong to us.
The goal should be having Brodie and Hamonic as our 7/8 in the press box. Now that's depth.

If you can add Erik Karlsson and not lose anything off your current roster, yes, you make that deal.

Flames don't trade for Karlsson without moving one of their RHD in the process.
The most likely one to go the other way would be Hamilton IMO, which would drastically reduce the rest of the return. (because obviously it would be Hamilton +)
While Karlsson would be a very large upgrade on Hamilton, I'd prefer to stay the course as Karlsson is going to break the bank and the Flames would either be paying him $10 million + or lose him as a UFA in a year and a half.

Kind of a strange article, the Flames are set on D and could clearly use a right winger to spark some mark offence and spark the power play. Besides, we can’t afford both Karlsson AND Tavares!

Given the contract that he will want, No. You don't.

Karlsson is certainly an elite talent, but I do worry about his injury history. He relies on speed to be effective and as he gets older I worry about that Achilles injury cropping up again.

If you can get Karlsson for the assets Francis said then of course you do it but the trade he proposed was a pipe dream.

Lol I don't know what Francis is smoking. You'd have to minimum add a Backlund to that to make it even a conversation IMO.

Francis is an F-n moron. His proposal for Karlsson is ridiculous. It would have to start with Hamilton, 1st rounder + roster player (like backlund or frolik) + a level prospect. We are talking about a top 5 player in the league (the only ppg d-man in the league). Even if its just a rental for 1.5 years, the value would be enormous. I would argue Karlsson at 6.5 value is much higher than McJesusgoat at 12.5 in a cap world. Acquiring arguably the most valuable player in the league for a couple prospects is laughable.

I wouldn't. Not only is he going to want $12M per but his game has degraded since his surgery. This is the exact kind of deal that puts you in cap jail while you are waiving goodbye to players like Tkachuk, Ferland, and Bennett because you can't afford to sign them. It isn't even a position we need a big upgrade at to boot Hell no.
