By the way, even if you feel it wasn't helmet-to-helmet contact, the following is taken from the CFL rule book on roughing the passer:
Contacting the passer in an unnecessary manner, including stuffing him to the ground, violently throwing him to the ground, and landing on him with most of the defender's weight.

It also states it has to be unnecessary. He fell on the QB while tackling him and while getting shoved by Edmonton Olineman.

As soon as there is helmet to face mask contact that's a penalty.
As an add on the fact that the CFL is clearly not taking hits to the head seriously is why grass roots football is dying out. We've had multiple schools kill their junior programs this year and pretty much all of the bantam teams had player shortages this year, why, because the CFL which should be leading the way in cleaning up the game, can't be bothered.
Jefferson didn't play it smart, he picked up a taunting penalty, Which pushes the kickoff back. Don't sit there and tell me a guy that has pulled that BS off twice now is thinking about the clock.
He wants to taunt and showboat.
The shame is he's extremely talented and he doesn't need to pull off garbage like that.
|
He didn’t hit him in the head and there was no taunting penalty on Jefferson. Why would they call a penalty? There’s no rule against running slowly.

That was a penalty....full stop nd any objective observer would agree after the replays were shown.
Doesnt much matter though as that Rider offense is woefully inadequate and Collaros nothing more than a mediocre to bad QB. They shouldnt pose a threat to anyone in the playoffs.

I don’t think you know what objective means.

Objectively, you are dead wrong as usual.

Esks are currently out of a playoff spot. Interesting.

Wouldn’t the Esks cross over to the east with their record?

4th place team in the west would get to cross over.
Eskimos are currently 5th in the west

The best thing ever would be the west teams losing on purpose to get to the East crossover, only to miss the playoffs all together.

On a related note, I'm not even sure if they'd want to crossover. While the crossover has only been utilized a handful of times, no team from the West has ever made the Grey Cup. In fact, it is rare that a west team even makes the EF.
Riders were very close last year if not for choking it away at the end of the game after taking the lead with about 1 min left.

The league has called several, several roughing the passer penalties this year that we much, much more pedestrian than that hit where you had clear helmet to helmet contact and then a pancake by the defender full weight on the QB. In fact this replay should be used as in referee education as an example of two different infractions on a QB hit.
I love seeing the Eskimos lose and I get it the officials didn't want to spoil Thanksgiving day for Saskatchewan and may even feared for the safety of the field officials but that should have been calls a penalty.

100x this. The loss helped the Bombers but it was a terrible call. The booth basically said it's cool for a defender to use their weight to crush a QB after a high hit. The defender made no effort to avoid it whatsoever. I'm shocked Reilly isn't hurt.

I guarantee you if the situation was in reverse, if it's Riders's QB got sneezed at, nevermind got hit like that, they would have called a roughing the passer on the Eskimos.

Eskie fan here. I give the officials the benefit of the doubt 95% of the time and have never in 35 years as a season ticket holder booed a call. Never! That was a penalty - both for the helmet hit and the defender landed full force into Reilly. That was a home-town call! It may cost us a playoff berth.
I’ve always hated the Riders and have no love for the Stamps but if you meet in the west final I’m cheering for the Stamps to crush them. Go, Stamps!

There was no helmet contact and there's no rule against falling on the QB.
Then again I enjoy seeing Stamps, Eskimo and Bomber fans sharing outrage together. It's good team building. Help reduce some of the infighting when you all inevitably turn on each other when a marginal call doesn't go your way in the playoffs.

#CFL rules for Roughing the Passer:
(a) Contacting the passer in an unnecessary manner, including stuffing him to the ground, violently throwing him to the ground, and landing on him with most of the defender’s weight,
(b) Any blow to the neck or head of the passer.

Already covered. Rule says it has to be in an unnecessary manner. It was just a normal hit. Guys fall on the QB all the time.
