Flyover, flag-raising at Calgary city hall planned for Monday as Royal Canada Air Force celebrates centennial

It's no beauty but it'll still be cool to see.

Spoiler!

What just flew over the city? 12:15 Saturday and sounded like the space shuttle or something?

I'm in the NE doing some shopping and just saw a pair of CF-18s come in for a landing. They may be overdue for museums but damn they're gorgeous.

They were pretty low if that's considered "in flight".

I assume it happened earlier, the start of the video is just before landing.

Wow, a video where the camera on the target and they weren't shrieking OMG for the whole video. that's rarer than the incident itself.

Can they deploy the thrust reverser brakes in that condition or do they have to have to use the landing gear brakes?

I'm going to totally guess they wouldn't risk the reversers, and just went with brakes and spoilers.

They absolutely used reverse thrust. You can see the 'sleeve' move back at about 10 seconds in the video:

The port side cowling rips off less than a second later.

Guess I should have watched the whole clip...

Oh yeah, when it kicks in that rips up the inboard panel.

I don't think that's on Boeing, it's probably poor maintenance by Southwest.

There are a bajillion 737s around. Don't hear of this kind of failure often.

Wonder if they had a bird strike or something that compromised it first.

Definitely not a Boeing thing, there's been dozens of engine cowling incidents over the last few decades both Boeing and Airbus, pretty much always a latch being left opened and missed during preflight

Didn't the cowling pop off a 777 taking off from Denver a couple of years ago too?

Maybe DEN's maintenance aren't locking things down.
