We could have easily done both in one but this makes it a busier off-season. Minnesota conditions being satisfied in both deals.
Minnesota can’t ever complain about other teams not thinking about them.

Capitals after their playoff run have shipped out their captain Giordano to Nashville.
Capitals have acquired Backlund, Glendening, Pick 91 and 112 from Nashville for Giordano and Prospect Drew Helleson.
We wanted to restructure out team a bit this offseason and were happy to get two forwards in Backlund and Glendening. Losing Helleson isnt ideal but you got to give to get.

TB also trades back a 2nd round pick in 2022. This negates the NASH owed 2nd round pick on a previous trade.
John Carlson is a solid upgrade on Burns on the top pairing and he is younger. Beecher is a former first round pick and had a solid showing in his limited AHL experience this year, but I was going to run into issues with contracts. Burns has had a solid season in the NHL though he is 37.
