It for sure is. Every single landmark location is top notch with their laser ultra screens and the atom app is far superior to the garbage from cineplex. Most cineplex’s are good, especially avx, but chinook just hasn’t been gotten the required upkeep or renos.

Has anyone been to a 4DX in town? I see there is one at Chinook but it is a dump...

Top Gun Maverick had an absolutely monster second weekend, dropped a record -32%, which is outrageous and shows really good signs that this thing will play well practically all summer.
A hold like that indicates it could go as high as $500M gross domestically.

I saw Dune in 4DX. It was horrible. It would work for an movie like Top Gun but was just super distracting for Dune.

Yeah, that was one movie that was going to kill it domestically.
Delaying the release on that movie is paying off huge.

Very encouraging that a non-CGI-fest, non-superhero movie can still clean up at the box office.

Chinook? I think you mean Eau Claire...
Maybe I have very low expectations, but I have no problems with Chinook. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Very odd they waited so long to release a new one.
Was looking at the top grossing movies of the 80s on IMDB to see what else they might want to look at, and wow.. what a different time once you get past the top 5-6): https://www.imdb.com/list/ls026063974/
1. ET
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
5. Batman
6. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
7. Back to the Future
8. Top Gun
9. Rain Man
10. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
11. Back to the Future 2
12. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
13. Crocodile Dundee
14. Fatal Attraction
15. Beverly Hills Cop
Very hard to even imagine comedies or a thriller movie getting into the top 15 movies of the decade now.
2010s is all Marvel/DC, Star Wars, and Disney/Pixar animation.

They're making more Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman and Beverly Hills Cop so half the list is getting or has modern sequels.
Back to the Future seems to be sacred and the only big franchise that hasn't been touched. I can't see ET or Fatal Attraction getting a reboot.

Kinda surprised Little Mermaid didn't make that list but Roger Rabbit did.

Look at all those original source material blockbusters! There are some sequels in there, but sequels to other 80s or late 70s movies.
Is no one ever going to take a chance on making the next Star Wars, Indiana Jones or Back to the Future?
Marvel movies are so tiresome to me now. Interestingly though, Disney is not dominating 2022 at all at the box office so far.

Compared to pre-covid 2019:

I don't know if people are getting tired of the Disney franchises, or if they have just shifted their money and talent to producing Disney+ content.

Keep in mind there's only been one Marvel movie released this year: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If you look at the total grosses, instead of strictly calendar year 2022 and taking into account that Spider-Man: No Way Home came out December 17th and Eternals came out in November, Marvel movies are 1st (Spider-Man), 3rd (Doctor Strange) and 8th (Eternals).
If you look at the 2021 list Marvel/Disney had the #1 (Spider-Man), #2 (Shang-Chi), #4 (Black Widow) and #6 (Eternals) releases... In calendar year 2021 they grossed a combined $1.15 billion.

I'd be interested in knowing how much money Marvel raked in at the Box Office from whenever you want to consider their Phase started all the way up to Endgame.
That would be interesting.

Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion.

Disney getting Marvel and Lucasfilms for $4B each have to be the greatest bargains in media history.

Absolutely. It's little wonder they keep poopin' out Marvel and Star Wars movies & TV series: people seemingly still can't get enough.
