Finally got around to watching Everything Everywhere All At Once.
That movie was utterly ridiculous and also somehow true. Amazing piece of work. I'm not sure if it needed to go THAT far toward the "self-consciously stupid" to do its thing... obviously some absurdity was necessary, but buttplug kung fu and mustard puke kind of worked at cross purposes with the central point. But it's still right, ultimately, and the end was very beautifully acted.
If anyone has any other heartwarmingly nihilistic films to suggest, lay 'em on me.

That's a very unique subgenre, haha... American Beauty comes to mind, but too bad it's tarnished by Kevin Spacey.
I started to put a list together and realized that it might be Charlie Kaufman's specific niche. It's been a while since I saw most of these, but I believe they could all fit:
Being John Malkovich
Adaptation.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Synecdoche, New York
Anomalisa
I'm Thinking of Ending Things
Paul Thomas Anderson maybe too with Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love.

Just came back from watching Thor: Love and Thunder and holy gods I'm not sure when I've last been so entertained.
It's notably more bonkers than anything in the MCU before it, just gloriously dumb fun, with again (much like MoM) just enough plot and theme to not turn utterly meaningless, I absolutely loved it.
It's a movie you just got to go with, stop worrying about stuff like continuity, this movie absolutely does not care how any of it fits to anything else and it does not care about complicated explanations to things. Rule of cool, if it's cool it's in the movie.
It's a beautiful 2 hour ride of rock'n'roll and popcorn and I was totally down for it. Christian Bale was great as Gorr, but oh boy Russel Crowe... *chef's kiss*

That's funny
I haven't seen it yet, but everything positive you just listed was listed as a negative by my boy.

I would probably side with your boy. Just did not get what they were doing with this one and thought it could have been a whole lot better. They have turned Thor into an oblivious dope. I did like Bale though.
There also should have been an ahh moment around she-thor reveal but there was nothing. I guess the trailers played it out.

What they were doing was an action fantasy comedy.
I was happy they didn't try to milk that Jane Foster as Thor reveal. Everyone knew it was coming, let's just get it done so we can move on.

Well Bob's Burgers The Movie was an absolute delight. Smooth animation, the music numbers absolutely bopped and a fun story. Basically an hour and half long episode of the show.

The Northman had its world premiere in Stockholm at Rigoletto Cinema on March 28, 2022. It began theatrical release in some countries on April 13, 2022, and was released theatrically in the United States on April 22 to critical acclaim, with particular praise aimed at its direction, production values, and the performances of the cast. Despite this, it performed poorly at the box office, grossing $68 million worldwide against its $70–90 million production budget, though the film performed well on the VOD and DVD/Blu-ray markets.
with that budget the break-even would have been in the $150 million range at least. as well reviewed as it is by media and audiences alike, those kinds of financials are what kill non-franchise projects and why the Disney factory just keeps chugging along bigger and faster by the quarter.
