I'd be ok with it for the Leafs if they had a stacked team with a strong prospect pool but I'm not seeing them as a true contender next year.
IMO this one is going to hurt for a few years especially with the Flames having Toronto's 2024 1st rounder

This is where it becomes a problem if the GM leaves, as they leave behind a franchise that no new GM can do anything with.
But there's no rule against this type of deal. So it is what it is.

Quigz is experienced enough to do know what he's doing, but man. These types of deals make me hyperventilate by just looking at them.

We have acquired Jake McCabe and pick 91 from WSH in exchange for a 2024 3rd and an owed 2023 5th

To CGY:
Lucas Raymond
John Gibson
44 overall
3rd 2023
To MIN:
Elias Pettersson
17th overall
While I paid handsomely for EP months ago, Raymond has since had an excellent rookie campaign and his sweet 1.35 x 3 contract played a role here.
I have been able to add Eichel and Pastrnak so up front felt the need to reduce the cap hit and hopefully add more depth to the lineup. Gibson will really come down to his rating, he is due a 3 year deal and I'll have to see the $ once ratings are out to determine his contract extension. If he has a decent rating I may extend him as I would like to go with 3 goalies this season.

Wild are happy to bring back Elias who is an original Wild draft pick and favorite. I sold high on him and to some degree I think I'm buying him back lower.
This also frees up a spot on the main roster for "The Terk" who will assume #1 duties after a very long stint and CPHL championship from John Gibson.

The thing that isn't being considered is the contract. Having a fairly highly rated player on a 1.35M contract for 3 yrs is really valuable...those guys have the highest value in the league IMO because there are so few.

To Calgary:
Arseni Sergeev
To Philly:
'23 4th round pick (was)
We have to clear a few AHL level goalie prospects. Sergeev looks promising but we have a few guys that we value more so he had to go.
Thanks to Ravi for the single PM deal.

To NYR: Denis Gurianov, Jackson Blake, 30th ov pick
To Edmonton: William Karlsson, cap difference, 1 mil next year
Bringing back Willy as we’ve had success with him before, and bringing back arguably the two best players in my tenure as gm in zibanejad and karlsson this summer as our 1-2 punch down the middle makes me happy. His contract worries me espeically for next year, but that’s a later issue.

it's tough to see the back of Wild Bill ... not only is he one of my favourite non-Flames players, but he's also been a sim beast for me. But after yet another playoffs disappointment, I kind of feel that this core has run its course and I'm looking to freshen things up and get younger. I hope Gurianov can finally take the next step (just saw that he re-upped in Dallas for another year, so that's good), plus I'm happy to add a decent pick in this draft. Need to re-stock the prospect pool badly.
as always, thanks to savardandjokinen for the talks and the deal!

Brayden McNabb + pick #96 to Detroit
2023 3rd (det) + pick #63 to Los Angeles
McNabb was involved in a few talks over the last 24 hours, and it came down to two trades... one was bigger and included multiple players (one being my 2nd best defensive prospect) and the second was just picks and money.
Detroit hammered out the last bit of this trade quickly, and a big part of it for LA was freeing up the money to seriously look at signing back some of our UFAs, once the grids come down. Turned into just too big of a draw.
For Detroit, they now have a pairing of OEL-McNabb out of basically nowhere. It's good to see a GM aggressive about being competitive.
Thanks to the GMs LA has had talks with in the past day or two, the opportunity might present itself to revisit elements of those talks in the future.
