Tsitsipas breaks and we're back on serve in set 2.

Whew if he lost I would have been pissed. Good 2nd set by Tsisipas but Nadal was just too much.

Congrats to Rafa on the title - As for Tsitsipas, hold your head high kid, what a week of tennis you just played.

This is Nadals 4th Rogers Cup his most titles at a non-clay event.
This title means a little more to me as a fan because he won a tournament with a shot clock. How many times do people complain about how long he takes to serve, I guess it doesn't matter he still just wins.

Nadal just pulled out of Cincy, could see a Raonic vs Shapo 3rd round match now

I don't think anyone here said that the reason Rafa wins tournaments is because he takes the maximum allotted time to serve (if so, please link I'd love to read that). pretty sure the primary complaint is that it's irritating to watch, because it's the same 25 seconds of ritualized ticks before his serve, whether the previous point was 1 shot or 20. it doesn't actually bother me anymore, because now I'm just folding laundry or doing dishes while watching his matches, and I know to look up when I hear the serve grunt. you can't do that with a Fed service game for example, because that can be over in the span of 2 Rafa service preparations.
anyhow, the shot clock worked great even for slow servers because it didn't start until the ump announced the score, and they would delay doing that if the players just finished a long rally. in fact in some cases it might have slowed things down because quicker servers now knew how much more time they had, so they could now reliably take more of it. I still doubt the rule will be enforced much in more important matches at key moments with top players, but at least it gives the appearance that things are more fair.

I didn't see that coming but not at all surprising given his injury history and the upcoming US Open. The fact his quarter drew three players that are effectively top 20 players (Edmund, Raonic, Shapo) might have had something to do with it.

After watching the shot clock for a few weeks now, I don't think it's that big of a deal for the top players until you get into the 5 setters at the US Open. In fact, it pretty much had zero effect in Toronto from what I saw. Once these chronic offenders like Nadal, Novak and such get into a 4th or 5th set where they can no longer milk it, we may see a drop in serve more frequently and more importantly not have to endure unnecessary delays between points.

You know who also drives me crazy is Marin Cilic, sometimes he bounces the ball more than 20 times before he serves. I keep waiting for somebody to yell out "Hit the damn ball" during the bouncing session. It's going to happen during the US Open, mark my words.

Also annoying - NBA players taking foul shouts, bouncing the ball numerous times before each shot, and then having to fist bump every team-mate after the first shot.
MLB - batters that have to adjust their gloves after every pitch.
Quit wasting our time!

Yeah he's brutal too.
Davis cup, US Open, I'm all for letting those guys hear it. As a pro there is no way that kind of routine is necessary at all. They can all walk up to the line cold and fire 200kmph bombs at will. These are merely tactics to get the returner out of rhythm and allow themselves to recover for as long as possible after points.
For me, this is what makes it so annoying.

lol - It is on my bucket list, but not this year. I was going to try to head out to Hollyburn this week for the Odlum Brown Open in Vancouver, but plans have changed for that as well. Too bad, a strong Canadian contingent this year as Vasek, Peter, and Felix are all playing and tickets are very reasonable.

Shapo update from Cincy - Frances Tiafoe was serving for the set up 5-4, but Shapo breaks to get back on serve in the opening set.
Edit: Denis takes the opening set winning the tie-breaker 8-6. Nice to get off the tie-breaker snide he was on.

This is standard Denis this year. Really frustrating to watch. Breaks and then double faults his own serve away.

Lucas Pouille made Andy Murray's stay in Cincinnati a short one (6-1 1-6 6-4)

Ruh Roh, Tiafoe breaks Denis to take a 5-4 lead in set 3 and is serving for the match.
Edit: Back on serve as Denis breaks right back.

Suddenly Denis gets out to a 40 love lead on Tiafoe's serve and boom, match over.
He really needs more consistency though. Tiafoe is a good player, sure, but if Denis is going to get into the top 10 in the foreseeable future, this sort of match can't be a nail biter.
