Default Let's talk about Dillon Dube

It's the eve of the season opener, lots going on but I wanted to see what CP thinks of this kid. I'm personally a huge fan, I think he has some serious skill and great wheels. He also possesses a very nice shot and good vision. In my eyes, I think he could very well be the future 2C of this team, and not just by default, I think he's going to force the issue. I think Sutter likes him too, that's why he's kinda hard on him. Could also see him possibly being our top line rw. Or maybe just shifting around the lineup where ever is needed. He's kind of a jack knife player in my eyes, he could work in a lot of different roles, depending on need. He's a guy I'd be really uncomfortable with them including for Eichel honestly.

So what's his upside in production? I notice a lot of people seem to put mangiapane ahead of him but I think it's because maniapane is a bit further ahead of the curve. Once they hit their prime, I think Dube will be recognized as the more valuable hockey player, and I really like mangiapane.

I can honestly see 20 goals and 40+ points as soon as this year. That would be huge for this team because he's likely starting out on L3 and maybe pp2. I see him generating lots of buzz this year and opening up some interesting options for the team going forward.

In his prime, and maybe even as soon as next year, I see him as a 25 goal 55+ point player who is going to be part of some big moments. Maybe even higher, I'm not sure. I just see something special in him. I think the scouts hit a homerun here and he will become part of our new core going forward

Thoughts?

I'm a huge Dube fan and I think he'll be a captain one day - hopefully for the Flames.

I could see 20-20 as his upside for this season, and 60 points for his peak career years

Yes! Totally. He's just got this vibe about him in my eyes. Never thought captain but I could totally see it some day. Good call

Plus, the stache potential is off the charts haha

He was 11+11=22 points last year in 51 games last year.

Prorated over 82 games, he was 18+18=36 points.

The exact same as Sam Bennett’s rookie season.

It would be huge for the team if Dube put up 20 goals. I have a hard time seeing that kind of production from him, but if he did, it would be huge. Here's hoping!

Edit: Ok - didn't realize he was on an 18-goal pace last year. I guess he's closer to that kind of production than I thought.

No need to duck haha, I'm trying to get the fanbase's opinion. I don't normally get super hyped on guys, but dube has me hyped. I was also crazy hyped on Bennett but I don't want to rehash that debate. Wasn't happy with Monahan at 6... wanted Lindholm to fall. Well, wanted Barkov, but that was pie in the sky. Gaudreau had me hyped, same as Tkackuk. I see Dube as a player that can really grow, I think he's a guy that takes some time, or else he would've gone top 15.

I hope to see the "step" everyone said he's going to take.

Dube right now reminds me a lot of Mangiapane a couple years ago. Dube's a little bigger, a little faster, a little cleaner puck skills, but he hasn't totally developed his feel for the game, which is where Mangiapane has a huge edge. But if it clicks for him I think that's a reasonable ceiling - a 5-10% better Mangiapane, topping out in the 55-60 point range if he ends up with a top-6 role and some PP time. Or in a more pessimistic scenario he's still a solid 30-point 3rd-liner with some skill.

He can do somethings at speed that most on the team can't, hopefully that translates to his offensive game taking another step.

Christ, thank God we have a competent coach here now that isn't going to give Dube the Sam Bennett treatment.

Dube is furnishing his new house through my workplace. Hoping I'm there next time he stops in. Any messages CP wants me to pass on are welcomed.

We have also worked with Gaudreau and Tkachuk in the past (course my colleagues and not me personally).

Half the time they don't even recognize players when they come through, its shameful. My friend that worked with Johnny said she loved him and his now wife.

Nope, doesn't have the same ring to it. Just thought I'd try it out.
