Someone talked him off that asinine ledge by explaining how the show's budget wouldn't be able to accommodate all the time required to fit an actress with the prosthetics.
|
Also, Deanna Troi was a traditional blonde beauty like the girls that would show up in the 60's show. Denise Crosby originally auditioned for the proto Deanna Troi character.
Tasha Yar was supposed to be Tanya Hernandez because Roddenberry or Berman or someone saw Aliens and took a liking to Vasquez. The head of security was supposed to be in the vein of that tough hispanic female character and that's why the dark haired Marina Sirtis audioned for head of security.
Later on, someone decided to just swap the actresses completely.

Great wrap on a great season. Best trek show of the new era is Lower Decks, no competition IMO.

I had heard the story that Crosby and Sirtis had auditioned for the opposite roles and final casting swapped them, but I didn't know the apocrypha about the Yar character originally being hispanic. Thanks

I'll agree with that.
Initially in Season 1 this show took a few episodes to get its feet under it, but once they found their groove they never looked back and have been killing it ever since.
Give me a 23 episode season!!

Finally finished the last two episodes.
Just great. I’ve watched a lot if Star Trek, and I’m sure I miss half the references in the show.
And it’s still great, even if you don’t get every reference.

I guess the next thing is going to be the possible final season of The Orville. I don't know if I can stomach another season of Discovery unless I treat it like an unintentional comedy.

The first episode of Star Trek: Prodigy is out. If you're a fan of Clone Wars I think you'll like this one. The animation is good and there's just enough Trek to tie it into the universe without having a lot of Federation forced on you.
You'll have to suspend disbelief with some animation physics but it's a fun watch.

If this sucks out loud I am holding you personally responsible.

There are some really interesting items here:
- ~5 years post Voy return
- Ship looks cool. It is small. Experiemental craft. Has a lot of La Sirena similarities to my eye in terms of bridge and controls. Actually makes a REALLY nice mid point between Sovereign/Cerritos time to what we see in Picard.
- Ship is an NX and has a novel propulsion system of some sort. (speculation that this could be the protostar-wormhole drive that Harry Kim pitches in voyager, now realized, also ties into name USS Protostar.)
- Robert Beltran is confirmed on it as well????? So we get Chakotay and Janeway?!
It does happen in Canon but is adjacent to main storyline obviously.
I am intrigued. I probably wont follow and watch each episode but may take them all once the season is over. I like that they're trying to attract a younger generation as I dont believe that Disco or Picard do that well enough, and Lower Decks might be too Metta.

I'm only going off one episode, and it's definitely aimed at kids, but it gives off Clone Wars vibes to me with some darker characters/storylines.

The next one should be "The Next General Discussion", no?
Or maybe "Star Trek General Discussion II: The Wrath of Burnham". Followed by "Star Trek General Discussion III: The Search for Ronald D. Moore".

I will give it one more episode to improve before I bail. If it wasn't for the Starfleet ship you could of told me that was part of the Star Wars universe and I would have believed you. There is a way to make shows appealing for kids and adults, so far I don't see much that appeals to adults.

I didn't think it was great. But it was in line with Star Wars. The Grievous type character, the main character with the mysterious origins who was a wise cracking thief and thrill seeker. The girl that was forced to serve the evil villain.
All we're missing is a wise cracking physically intimidating alien. Oh wait.

I tried but Prodigy is not for me. I hate the style of clone wars and it even took me a long while to warm up to the animation of Lower Decks. I also despise Nickelodeon and this series is designed to be a staple to go on that channel.
