Really there is not a parallel in terms of the influence of one player on a team winning a World Cup like in 1986, just a sublime player. Even in 1990 he was still a big part of Argentina getting so far. His single pass to Claudio Caniggia won the game against Brazil in one of the elimination games.

Players like Pele, Puskas, and Zidane played with much better “teams”.

That pass to Caniggia was incredible, with his RIGHT foot! And don't forget 1994, Argentina might have won the tournament if he didn't get busted.

yeah crazy coincidence. Two wonderful footballers who obviously had their demons off the field and died pretty young as a result.

I recently watched the documentary called Diego Maradona by Asif Kapadia on HBO. Highly recommend. Quite a sad story, really. He was just a kid from the slums wanting to buy a house for his parents that got sucked into the world of fame, crime (Camorra) & drug addiction. As a Dutchman I'm not a fan of Argentina (1978 World Cup robbery) and generally cheer against them, but I always appreciated the skill and passion Maradona had. RIP

Genius and demons are far to often found in the same person.

He was the best player of my lifetime. An incredible talent who delivered on the biggest stage. To be as good as he was is astounding in itself, but he was 5’5” and played like a giant.

RIP

Madonna is trending on Twitter now, because people don't know Diego.

My browser home page has an article on it

'10 Sure Sign's You're Having a Heart Attack Like Maradona'

I doubt the first sign is you've snorted more coke than a strippers convention in Vegas but I live in hope.

The English go on and on (and on...) about the Hand of God goal, but the other goal in that match was sublime.
One of the greatest goals of all time , at worst its 3rd
