Its too bad the colors from the led blew out in the bubbles. Crazy how we couldn't get them to show properly during the shoot. Seeing these photos again make me want to build another one but for my house this time!
Thanks again bud!

Wide open aperture (low f-stop) makes shallow subjects look sharper while blurring the background.
While we're educating, it's worth noting that a short distance to the subject, long distance to the background, and long lens focal length also increase bokeh.
In relative terms, yes. Short and long are relative criteria, I mean. That's why I mentioned "shallow subjects". Even a lens face or a water drop could be a lot more than shallow in certain shooting conditions, right.
A few of my experiments with blurring effects through aperture setting. You can see the impact of an f/1.4 -35mm (Leica lens face) vs. an f/3-200mm (white ball) vs. f/8-135mm (water droplets on leaves) shooting at roughly the same distances from the subject.
I wouldn't call it idiotic. In essence, it is a super-advanced camera body without the video function, isn't it? I have not tried it yet, but photographers who did like it. The look is a tribute to a classic film Nikon F body. It is expensive though.

Pretty ####e tribute though, don't you think? I would call it the ugly ####### child of a Nikon F and a d800. Fuji has it figured out, Nikon not so much. Poor tribute when the F is a joy to use, and the df looks like a pain in the ass.
I'm not a stats guy, but I understand it has d800 guts right? Does that still qualify as super-advanced? It's 1-2 years old now. Honest question, since I don't follow gear that much.
The faux aperture ring on the lens is the essence of what's wrong with this camera. Fluff and useless.
The reviewer nailed it when he said that if the camera was ~$700 it would be great. But it's not. It's a pro camera, and I don't see pros using the thing. People in the video liked it because they've never handled an SLR before - NOT the type of people who drop 3k on a body. Nikon needs to figure things out.
Df has D4 sensor, which is arguably the most advanced professional DSLR sensor on the market today. I also don't think it is a pro camera body but for different reasons. As for looks, I don't know, I don't find it as repulsive as you, I guess. It's all right. Nostalgic look.
