Default Neal - I want to win. Bad.

Quote:
What precisely, he's asked, injects him with optimism for the task ahead?

"Everything," he answers. "Starting with Smitty in goal, to our defence, to Gio, the adds we made and then how deep our forward group is. We've got skill, we've got grit, we've got goaltending.

"I've been through tons of different playoff-type atmospheres,'' he says of this fresh challenge. "I've been through all different types of series. Lots of stuff. I'm going to try and bring that to Calgary, to the locker room, help the young guys as best I can and kinda lead by example.
Quote:
"I want to win. Bad.

"I've been really close to the ultimate the last two years. When you get a taste of that … the way a city comes together, a team comes together, well, it's a pretty special time.

"I know Calgary's been through that before and wants to experience it again.

"A short summer for me is winding down pretty fast here.

"So I'm just excited to get there, get going, and start a new chapter in my career."
I'm so happy Neal signed with the Flames.

It still hasn't really sinked in that Neal is on the team for me.

Pretty much exactly what the team needed the last two years.

Since we signed Neal, is it pre-ordained that the Flames will lose in the Stanley Cup finals?

Hossa effect 2.0. Loses in two finals goes to 3rd team and wins it.

Hope he pulls a Hossa, Wins it on team 3, not retires in a decade from a weird skin condition.

No just like Hossa the third time will be the charm. He will then win 2 additional cups in his time in Calgary.

Neal went from a team who was in the Stanley Cup finals, to a team who couldn't even make the playoffs. He must be pretty confident in the Flames roster and coaching staff's ability to ice a winning team.

And Hossa did all that while being horribly allergic to his equipment. What a soldier!

This is the kind of player the team needed. Wants to win and hates to lose.

Neal also rallies the troops, helps create that sense of unity. Was a huge factor in the Knights gelling like they did.

Outside of Tavares this was the UFA that made by far the most sense. I am pumped the Flames got him and really excited to see what he does.

Crawford played 23 and 20 games the last two SCF runs. He had 0.932 and 0.924 save percentages. Will Smith be healthy enough to play if the Flames make the playoffs and go on a run given that he will be 37 at that time? That is the major question for me.

Other than that -

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Neal
Bennett - Ryan - Frolik
LW - Jankowski - Czarnik

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Andersson

- is probably good enough to make the playoffs and go on a run.

There's a recent Fan960 interview of Friedman being interviewed by Wills, and Neal was brought up. Besides the aforementioned consistent 20+ goal scorer accolades, Friedman mentioned bringing this topic up with Pierre-Édouard Bellemare of the Knights. It's worth a listen, but the TLDR version is that Neal will bring the kind of presence and swagger to the Flames that we've been badly needing.

Good. We didn't seem to have enough players last year that gave a #### whether we won or lost.

I will take that! Better then not making the playoffs or being swept in the first round.

2013-14 Preds were not a playoff team.
2014-15 Preds add Neal and finish 2nd in their division. Lose in round 1.
2015-16 Preds finish in a WC spot and win a round. Lose in round 2.
2016-17 Preds finish in a WC spot and win three rounds. Lose in SCF.
2017-18 Knights add Neal, win three rounds. Lose in SCF.
2018-19 Flames add Neal, ______________.

I like that progression. The guy wins. I hope what goes in that black is a lot of winning.

This guy is going to be great for this team on the ice and in the dressing room. Can't wait to see what he can do.
