Panarin gives Blue Jackets Sept 13 deadline
https://theathletic.com/437746/2018/...t-13-deadline/
Quote:
Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen insisted that his meeting on Sunday in Nice, France, with forward Artemi Panarin wouldn’t include a contract offer and it wouldn’t find him begging or pleading for Panarin to stay long-term in Columbus.
Even in the intoxicating breezes of the French Riviera, Kekalainen stayed true to his word during a 45-minute meeting, which was said to be cordial and professional.
But the meeting wasn’t without developments.
Panarin informed Kekalainen that he wants all business matters pushed aside as of Sept. 13, the day training camp opens in Columbus and across the NHL. Panarin’s agent confirmed this to The Athletic on Thursday.
|
Quote:
The consensus around the NHL — speaking with GMs, management types, etc. — is that Panarin’s willingness to sign an extension with his new club would be the difference between a trade that provides the Blue Jackets an immediate roster impact and a trade that involves only future commodities, such as high-end prospects and early-round draft picks.
Kekalainen has said he expects Panarin to be with the Blue Jackets when the season starts, perhaps all the way to the NHL trade deadline and beyond.
But if Panarin insists upon the Sept. 13 deadline, the Blue Jackets could have less than two months to make their best trade, or at least the trade that helps them most in the short term.
|
Article also says the BJs have some legitimate offers but all of them involve future assets.

He wouldn't sign here but I'd pay a TON for Panarin. Like, I'd add a TON to the 2019 1st.

There has to be a convoluted, seemingly impossible series of trades that would put him and Karlsson in Tampa.
I vote for that. I vote for chaos.

I cant even fathom what it would take, but I'd be thrilled to have a talent like Panarin added to this roster. It would really kick us up a few notches.

I would love a guy like Panarin on this team but he’s going for the big bucks next summer no doubt and he will get them.

My understanding is that Panarin only wants to play for NY, LA, or Chicago. I remember reading that somewhere. Am I off base?

Does he mean signed or traded by Sept 13th because business pushed aside just means ignored during the season and dealt with later.

I also heard Chicago and NY. That is it. So California, NY, Chicago, or a Florida team.

He is only willing to discuss a contract extension until Sept 13. That means if the Blue Jackets want to maximize trade value by having Panarin already agreeing to a contract extension with a new team, they need to trade him by Sept 13.
Otherwise after that date, the Blue Jackets can only trade him as a rental.
(assuming he and his agent upholds the deadline).

The guy is a mercenary who's only interested in big money and bright lights. He wouldn't come to Calgary and I wouldn't want him.

It wouldn't, so...
The whole "We're not talking to you once training camp starts" thing strikes me as something GMs should push back on. You're a ####ing agent, you can negotiate while your player plays hockey.

Depending on cost you'd pass on a brilliant ~80 point winger?
I dont know man, I'd give up a lot for Panarin.
