Between the Flames (China), Bruins (China) and Edmonton (No Good), there are not too many other teams with heavy PTO lists.

Given the way the Flames F and D lineup looks so far, I can't imagine any of these players have a legitimate change of making the opening lineup. Even the opening health scratch roster would be a stretch for many, considering Peluso and Prout.

These are really AHL tryouts for the majority.

Players get a chance to play higher in the line up here with our main roster being away. A nice opportunity to show their stuff as they can still sign with any team in the league

Is there still a debate over which of Crosby and Brule will be the best player from the 2005 draft or is that mostly settled?

Was anyone actually at camp today? Or is it not open to the public?

Given the number of PTOs, I think if anyone in the public showed up with their skates, they'd let you give it a go...

No, your comparisons are way, way, way off. You are totally misremembering things.

Ovechkin and Malkin were both thought to be elite prospects, guys who would go #1 in their draft year if they were in different years. Talk before that draft was that Malkin had closed the gap and They were pretty much even. You want a similar comparable to that? McDavid and Eichel going 1-2.

Brule went 6th in his draft year. He in no way compares to any of the names you mentioned. Johnson and Bobby Ryan were the two closest to Crosby that year. If anything Jack Johnson was the most clear as the #2 despite Ryan going 2nd

Your take on this is just flat out wrong, sorry.

Never argue with Flames Draft Watcher when it comes to the draft!

I do recall Brule having some hype around him but certainly not at all close to Crosby.

There was the odd contrarian that did say Brule was closer than anyone thought and it might not be a slam dunk ect.

I love a good argument about the draft. But you can’t try and claim Brule was the clearcut #2 and in the conversation with Crosby when he actually went 6th that year behind Crosby, Ryan, Johnson, Benoit Pouliot and Carey Price.

Brule definitely did have some hype that year. A 5’10ish powerforward who scored 40 goals in junior. He was definitely rushed to the NHL and that combined with his brutal injuries really set him back. I’d say he was overhyped on HF that year if anyone was reading that board which had a lot of Western Canadians.

But yeah Crosby/Brule in no way was comparable to Ovechkin/Malkin. That’s just a laughable claim. Ovechkin was the greatest goal scoring prospect in probably over a decade and Malkin was seen as being as good and a big franchise centreman. Both of them and Crosby were some of the most hyped prospects of that entire decade. Brule? Nowhere close.

Brule was part of the group to be the 2nd player after Crosby.
I think he was the star of the top prospects game that Crosby skipped. Really looking back at that draft after Crosby it's not a really deep first round. Carey Price ended up being a Superstar at some point as has Kopitar, Tuka Rask has been an impact guy. But after those three more mid roster type players.

But there was no mistake Crosby was the guy in that draft. There was no Eichel or Malkin like consolation prize.
