Solid deal for Nashville. Sure he's a bit long in the tooth, but 20 minutes a night and 24 points with Dallas last year, it's not like he's completely tanked. Very solid depth signing.

7th D man to mainly sit in the box? I think he is still a solid veteran and probably better than Weber. Decent signing and good money for him.

Still can't believe they chose him over Gio for the Olympics. Biggest oversight by Team Canada in modern Olympics history.

Nah, Crosby 2006. 102 points, 39 goals to finish the season. Thornton had 125, Heatley had 103, no other Canadian had more.

I would say not taking Crosby in the 2006 Olympics was way worse.

Too many Oilers in that kitchen and thus the predictable result.

Even St. Louis, although he ended up on the team, was more erroneous . He was coming off an Art Ross season and was a point-per-game player at the time of selection.

There was actually a period where Hamhuis was a very good two way top pairing guy, though. Jay Bouwmeester was picked for that team as well, and played more than Hamhuis, despite Hamhuis being a better player for several years prior. Anyway, the Crosby one was obviously worse because he was arguably the best player in the world, and more importantly, they lost.

Yzerman picked St. Louis' 2014 team. It won, St. Louis was on it at the end due to injuries, but the damage was done. He finally forced a trade and Yzerman got back Callahan. Callahan re-signed in Tampa and is the only bad contract that team has.
Gretzky picked 2006 team.

Probably a good situation for Hamhuis. He's familiar with the city and organization, and at his age, it's as good a bet as there is to be with a winner. Good insurance for them if they ever have a top 4 guy go down.

Yzerman snubbed St.Louis in the 2010 and 2014 origjnal team selections . In 2010 he wasnt the lightning GM yet but in 2014 was.
