If we want a new arena, we need someone far more competent at working towards achieving it than KK. The length of time they took to come up with an arena plan, the leaks that something would be announced soon only to be followed with delay after delay, and then he presents that travesty of a proposal!
He isn't even competent enough to convince a bunch of hockey nuts on a fan forum. The very people who should be the easiest sell.
KK should be out of a job before he mismanages this so bad we end up moving because of him.

Has King ever left the comfort of the fan960 to discuss CalgaryNext? Rob Kerr was basically hand job'ing King and it'd be interesting to see Ken go up against someone on the radio that would challenge him like CBC's David Gray.

Will David Gray let him use a visit to a sick woman to drum up sentiment?

Saw this thread posted this morning and assumed it was an April Fools joke. What an ill timed and embarrassing statement to make, King sounds like an upset immature high school girlfriend here. Embarrassing

How about both Nenshi and King step down together? I think that would be a terrific first step.

The Flames have been the best story in town for two months. Last night was the biggest win in two years, and they've blown a good chunk of that goodwill. Not good.
Ah, maybe I'm just bitter. My wife and I have been on the rocks for a couple years and I couldn't get a job. Finally I got a part-time gig and came home last night and we celebrated and I sweetly told her that if she didn't buy me a new truck, we might have to get a divorce. I don't know what she's so pissed off about, but pissed she is, and I'm standing here with my hands in the air like "what's wrong?".

why not just fire KK and get a new CEO? he's been there too long, and a fresh perspective might help things. He seems like he's overstayed is usefulness.

I can't believe how hilarious this thread is.
I avoided it for the first 200 posts thinking it was a lame april fools joke.
Turns out the Joke is on the Flames.
The Tone Deafness is striking, it really is.

Because scary as this may sound maybe the owners actually like the job King has done. Or at the very least they are simply cool with him taking the vast majority of the PR hit here. Objectively speaking it's tough to say King has done anything but a bad job, unless he's doing the exact job the owners want him to do.

Raiders left, any team can leave in my opinion. Hell, the raiders even had local government support for a new stadium in the beginning.

Tone deaf to the extreme. The fact that the public face of a professional sports team could use the visit to a dying woman as part of a push to get arena money is ####ing unbelievable. I just can't fathom how someone is unable to see how crass that is before opening his mouth.

There's something that is just that much worse knowing N.M Edwards is behind all of this. If there is one man who would try to strongarm his own (former) city, its him. Good riddance.

NHL<>NFL
The NHL is closer to the CFL than it is the NFL.

Ken King is very talented at the social aspect of relations, and very skilled at deflecting obligation or liability. It's made him tremendously valuable as a spokesperson to the rest of the Calgary business community, chamber of commerce, etc.
This is an exceedingly valuable commodity/skill to possess and the Flames as an organization have benefited from it, and will likely continue to benefit as prominent individuals and groups like the Chamber put pressure on City Council and Province.
