2nd the Devils Brigade. Great movie.

Black Hawk Down is a favorite of mine just for the depiction of Special forces.

Private Ryan is obvious even though a bit Hollywoodized.

If you could consider Band of Brothers a 10 hour movie, that would take the cake for me.

No, you shouldn't. That movie was garbage.

Does Schindler's List count as a "war movie", or is it just a drama set against the back drop of a war?

If it counts, it should be up there IMO.

I have a soft spot for that one as my grandfather was a Flight Lieutenant in WW2 (piloted a Wellington)

That's tough, I wouldn't consider it a war movie per say, because then you'd have to put up movies like the diary of Ann Frank.

Another one that I thought was fantastic was Empire of the sun with Christian Bale

Yeah, my grandfather on my fathers side who I never met (Not because of the war, but because he abandoned his family) was a radio operator/navigator in the RAF with bomber command.

I enjoyed the movie, but it was not a war movie.

No Lawrence of Arabia? It's my favorite movie of all time, and should conceivably count as a war movie. Maybe they consider it to be part of a different genre for the sake of this list, but it's a better movie than the ten they have listed.

One of the worst and most overrated movies i have ever seen was Thin Red Line. Critics should be ashamed for giving this movie a positive review.

Gallipoli is another good movie that has not been mentioned.

I do not think much of 3 Kings, I would agree that Saving Private ryan should be somewhere on that Top Ten List.

how about Stalag 17 or the Great Escape?

I love The Great Escape.

I've never watched Das Boot because I'm a little claustrophobic and don't know if I could handle it.

Full Metal Jacket should be on that list...just the boot camp piece alone makes one shudder.

yup R Lee Emery makes that movie.

And the training wasn't far off of the Marine Corp training guide from that day and age before they soften things up a bit.

I would like others have The Dirty Dozen on my list

Another one I enjoyed, even though I wanted to dislike it because of it's lead actor, was The Last Samurai... whether this is a drama or a war movie all depends on ones opinion

Surprised no Private Ryan, considering many view it as the most accurate portrayal of what WW2 was really like. Well, the opening sequence anyways.

Already mentioned but The Great Escape is another notable omission. Big Canadian influence on that whole operation in real life as well! Though you wouldn't know it from watching the film. On second thought.....
