Default Top 10 War Movies

Another list to argue:

http://www.theguardian.com/film/film...-10-war-movies

#6 Three Kings (great great movie)

Interesting whatt is left out.

There are the well know ones, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket. Also surprised Cross of Iron and Stalingrad are not on the list.

We Were Soldiers and Windtalkers were decent, but flawed. Windtalkers had some pretty poor acting.

I understand the Artistic Merit of a Movie like "The Thin Red Line" but Saving Private Ryan should really be on there ahead of it for the opening scene alone.

I think The Longest Day and Platoon are missing for the list. also, Tora Tora Tora and Das boot.

Edit: Seem's like the list is quite slanted to Movies that were critical of war and avoided movies that were more historical in nature.

Kelly's Heroes is a better ( similar genre)movie than Three Kings IMO.

Platoon, Private Ryan, Inglorious Basterds, The Big Red One, Green Berets, Full Metal Jacket, Memphis Belle, Black HAwk Down are some favorites.

Should I feel guilty for hating Inglorious Basterds.

Also I thought that the Green Berets wasn't that great, except as a propaganda piece.

Platoon is crap. Oliver Stone is crap. If I wanted to be bludgeoned to death with a parable I'd go to church.

Most blatant omissions IMO are The Big Red One and The Dirty Dozen.

Platoon is one of my all time favourites, I've seen it so many times though.

A little off topic, but there's this documentary called "The Remnants of War". They talk about the bone fields outside Stalingrad, something like half a million soldiers just left there, to this day, mainly from the German retreat. It's really quite something.

I wouldn't say that Platoon was the holy grail of war movies, but it was far from crap.

I can't believe I forgot about the big red one.

Another good movie was All's Quiet on the Western Front. Tigerland should also get a mention.

Absolutely, one of the great movies that tends to be under rated for some reason.

If anyone goes back far enough, the Red Badge of Courage was a phenomenal movie.

I'd put Battleship Potemkin and Alexander Nevsky way up there. Eisenstein was amazing for his time.

Just came back in to add All Quiet On The Western Front (1930, not the mediocre remake).

That movie is just harrowing.

I just have a massive hate-on for Stone. I get irrationally mad at how blatant and unsubtle his themes are. It literally drives me up the wall.
