UPD: Berglund on waivers to terminate contract. Gives up ~$12.5 million.
interesting development. Berglund is still owed approximately $13 million on his contract.
Buffalo Sabres
@BuffaloSabres
Forward Patrik Berglund has been suspended indefinitely by the organization due to failure to report to the team.
John Vogl @BuffaloVogl
Wow. Things have not started well for Patrik Berglund in Buffalo. He had been “sick” during past few games. He has four years left at $3.85 million per season after being acquired in Ryan O’Reilly trade.
Mike Harrington @ByMHarrington
Early in the season, some of the players referred to Berglund as the "Swedish godfather" because they felt he would help all the young Swedes. He was furious with the healthy scratch in San Jose and you don't see him much when room is open to media. Always in the back. #Sabres

Always wanted him after the lockout shortened season when he played with Backlund. Glad we dodged that bullet with the young swedes we have in the system...

At that contract term, I doubt anyone would be interested unless for an equally bad contract.

Of course, it’s his RFA years. It allowed NMC/NTC during those.

Totally makes sense. I keep forgetting now since young players after year three are making a bucket load of money compared to years past and yet are still RFAs

McConnor probably lobbied hard for a PMC (please move clause) but being an rfa, couldn’t get it done.

He also wanted an ABE clause (anywhere but Edmonton) but couldn't get that done!

what's the point of an NTC or NMC if you're already in Edmonton?

Well, if you're traded and your new team honours the clause, it would prevent you from ever getting traded back to Edmonton.
Though in that case, it should be called a ‘Please, please, PLEASE lock the barn door after the horse is gone!’ clause.

On HNIC they said that Berglund missed a team event and didn't show up to practice.
Friedman said the major issue is that Berglund's full NTC turned into a 20 team NTC list on June 30th and Berglund's list wasn't submitted in time allowing the Blues to trade him to the Sabres in the ROR deal without his consent.
Both sides (Sabres and Berglund camp) are trying to find a solution.
They also speculated that this might lead to a contract termination but the Blues would need this to play out a little.

That really annoys me. Like suck it up buttercup. If he didn't submit the list during the required time frame, and assuming that is in writing as part of the contract clause, then he should play where he was traded to.
I mean sure, Buffalo wouldn't be at the top of my list either, but they have a good team now and a pretty darn nice barn. I will also say this, even though Buffalo weather sucks and it isn't the prettiest city, I have attended games there in the past, and the people in that city strike me as very nice and humble. Their fans deserve more respect than a millionaire hockey player shunning them like that.

There were rumours of him wanting to go home to Sweden within the last year too iirc. Maybe he says screw it and leaves

Honestly he hasn’t been very good and is signed at a pretty high salary for what he provides. I’d be okay with losing that contract.

As much as I liked that trade for the Blues, if true, a dirt bag move by Doug Armstrong to trade Berglund over a technicality. That kind of thing can gain you a bad reputation around the league and players not wanting to play for you or sign with you
Flip side, Berglund should be pissed at his agent for not getting the paper work in on time, but thank his lucky stars he's now on a real good team and out of the tire fire in St Loo
