Not surprising. Racism isn't a big scandal over there.

They don't have the history of African slavery and civil rights movements that North America had. I am not saying everyone there is a racist, but it's not as sensitive of an issue like it is in some other parts of the world.

Everyone deserves another chance, including Peters. This is a step towards an inevitable return to the NHL.

I'd wager never again in the NHL. Most deserve second chances in life but there's nothing out there that says it needs to be in the big leagues. He will likely bounce around Europe and North America being largely forgotten making decent coin for second rate leagues. Nothing wrong with that!

The NHL is a gate-driven business. It would be very, very difficult to PR spin bringing Peters back.

I'd have a hard time supporting an NHL team that chooses to employ someone who has behaved the way Peters reportedly did while in a position of power. That said, if NHL teams are interested in bringing back Slava Voynov, whose actions were (in my opinion) far worse, who knows what they would do about Peters.

Difference being of course that voynov had shown he contributed towards winning. Peters... Not so much.

Had Peters lost 4 more games and been fired for team performance and none of the other stuff came to light, would he gave gotten another job? Pretty unlikely.

I think Peters is probably a better coach from a strictly hockey perspective (not factoring in personal transgressions) than Gully, and he found another job right away.

Craig MacTavish got a second chance after killing someone. I'd say what MacTavish did was considerably worse.

The chances of an NHL return are slim to none, but I agree with the first part of your post.

The typical path towards professional hockey obscurity for any somewhat recent Flames coach not named Daryl Sutter.

Keenan won the Gagarin Cup

Hartley took an underdog team to the Gagarin Cup finals last year

I don't think Peters is as good of a coach as either of those two, but the KHL doesn't sound like a bad gig for any coaches with some gas left in tank

Color me crazy, but telling a black hockey player to turn off the music containing the "N" word many times in a dressing room still doesn't strike me a racism. lets face it folks, rap music containing the garbage that it does has no right to screw anyone from a job. Peters got thrown threw the coals for saying what 99% of people would think.

Having said that, I'm glad he's not the flames coach but for other reasons but not because he requested to turn that N... shat off.

If Billy asked them to "turn off the rap music," we aren't having this discussion. But no, he called it what he called it, which is derogatory, dismissive, and patronizing.
