Not sure how "This that what we do, don't tell your mom ####

IMO he is what is wrong with music these days.
You obviously haven't heard his older production:

But yeah he is a d-bag

If you tell people something enough times, they'll somehow start to believe you.
That's the only way I can understand anyone calling Kanye a "genius".

Naw its like paintings or any other form of art. People will stand in front of the biggest pieces of crap and nod their head, rub their chin, fire out some wacky interpretation and then tell everyone that the artist is a genius and they've been following their work forever, because they want to look edgy, educated and plugged in.

People will stand in front of a fire extinguisher at a museum and interpret it.

NOPE......complete hack...no musical talent what so ever. Lot's of sampling. You know, if he tries harder in about 20 years he might be up to Dr. Seuss's level for rhyming.

Kanye is...

A dick
The person most likely to OD on his own ego...
...yet very self-aware (see I Am a God feat. God)
A pretty good troll
Addicted to porn (he said it...)

But a hack? There are so many substantially worse artists than Kanye out there that calling him a hack devalues what a hack is. Nickelback are hacks. Katy Perry is a (massively titted) hack. Iggy Azalea makes me want to slice little kittens into mincemeat pie. A strong amount of electronic music is done by hacks. Kanye is egotistical and annoying but his music is hardly in the level of a hack.

He's not a hack. But he's certainly not a genius.

I honestly have no idea why sampling is hated on. It takes a lot of talent to be able to chops those songs together and make it into something fresh.

Didn't we have this exact same discussion in the last thread where Kanye acted like a total clown?

Sampling's fine, I listen to a lot of music with sampling myself, but at the end of the day taking an existing song and changing it is still taking an existing song. It can't be on the same level as writing original material, imo

I never said he's a no talent hack. I am a fan of his music, have all of his albums and have gone to see him on concert multiple times.

Just saying that the reason people throw the word genius around for Kanye, is because he himself started calling himself that.
People weren't called him a genius until he kept saying it, and somehow that caught on.

I guess it is pretty genius that he can proclaim himself as a genius and a lot of fans will be like " oh, I guess you're right. You are a genius!"

The thing about Kanye is that he's an above average (at best) rapper, certainly not a genius in that regard.

HOWEVER, his production is immaculate, and on par with other producers such as Premiere, Pete Rock, RZA, Marley Marl and Dre.

I mean jesus listen to this:

See that's where you are wrong. Anyone that can pick up a guitar and play or sing has talent. The level of talent is debateable but anyone that's sold a lot of records and play live has a degree of musical talent. Nickelback has talent. Everyone in the group is competent at their role. Katy Perry can carry a tune. Kayne West may be able to write music or produce but he can't sing or rap. He's a complete no talent as an actual performer.

Sorry, but following the corporate ####-rock template is not talent, it's following a template. A kid who can draw inside the lines is not talented, many people can draw inside the lines. If he was creating the lines, then he's talented. But no credit for following the blueprint set out by AC/DC in 1980. Likewise for Katy and the others, simply products of the machine who will be (and in Nickelback's case already have been) replaced. Kanye at least challenges himself and the listener.

And as mentioned by others Kanye is an elite producer, certainly in the top 10 in rap history. Nickelback, Katy Perry and others are only in top 10 categories that apply to popularity or record sales, which has little to nothing to do with talent (see: Air Supply with more record sales than Radiohead).

bahahahha...so much wrong with this statement. HE IS A NO TALENT HACK WHO SURROUNDS HIMSELF WITH TALENT THEN TAKES THE CREDIT. He can't sing...he can't play an instrument....all he is good for is being the biggest ego on the planet. Stop making people with no talent famous!

Please provide a list of your top 10 hip hop producers of all time. Feel free to include the 5 I've listed above to get you started.

Dre, Dza, Premier, Rock, Marl are all way better

West is overrated to me, his songs lack proper transitions between the verses and choruses, often have poor lyrical structure the idioms and colloquialisms in his rapping are just plain annoying most of the time. He's like the Metallica of hiphop. Kanye does have some underlying talent, problem is he wastes so much time obsessing over his ego and not enough time practicing singing and rapping.
