I wonder if Weise being waived is foreshadowing a trade.
If he clears waivers, he could be moved to a new team who can bury him in the AHL, saving some money. Could be part of some salary cap gymnastics.
EDIT: Would be a 1.325M cap hit if buried in minors.

LOL my advice was pointed towards the Flames... it would be very much in-character for the Oilers to put in a claim

Poor Colby. A mediocre AHL player (about .5 ppg) for years, finally has a ppg+ start to the year, gets called up for 20 games, gets first NHL points and now is demoted again.

Call me an Oilers fan. Five minutes ago I’d never heard the name Colby Cave. Now I’m hoping he can plug the hole the Oilers have at the centre ice position, the one created when Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli traded away centre Ryan Strome for winger Ryan Spooner. And became I’m an Oilers fan of a certain vintage and wishful disposition, thoughts of Cave being the new Kevin McCelland immediately pop into my head.
Quote:
We see at the AHL level he’s become a decent offensive player with 18 points in 15 games this year. So after years of being an OK AHLer, he’s now become a dominant AHLer at age 24. That’s a promising signal at least. Bob Stauffer of the Oilers tweeted out: “Cave is a late bloomer. He is a smart player who could provide the Oilers with some center depth. He captained the Swift Current Broncos and had 18 points in 15 GP with Providence this season in AHL.”
