He’s a Rider and Oiler fan who also went nuclear on a bad joke from Boomer a few years back, would be a very strange hire...

He's done PBP for the Riders and Pats so he knows plenty enough about hockey and CFL football which is probably enough to carry a show. Kelly Kirch is also a Riders fan and maybe they are tight? According to Pederson he's leaving for a new opportunity;

The Thrash this guy has talked about franchises in the city is endless. If they hire this clown I will be extremely disappointed.

He used to play by play for the Prince Albert Raiders as well. I’ve always found him to be a blowhard.
Apparently he also had a drinking problem. Which apparently cost him the job as Peter Maher’s replacement.

Rock Bottom
But he didn't think he was the same person.
His addiction cost him his dream job as the voice of the Calgary Flames.
"That knocked me into depression. That put my alcoholism into over-drive which led to my rock bottom," said Pedersen.
He was on anti-depressants and heavily drinking when he went into work.
"They had sent me home from work," he said. "I woke up the next morning thinking 'what happened?"

Pedersen is connected in Phoenix. Any chance they’ve got a radio gig opening? The guy has it pretty good in Regina, can’t see him leaving unless it’s NHL play by play.

Yup.
It was a poorly thought out comment but was obviously meant in jest.
The over-reaction by Rider fans and even the station was absurd though.

It wasn't so much a joke as it was a statement, Boomer said he hoped the Riders plane crashed and they all died.
It was definitely not meant to be serious but it's pretty obvious why the Fan960 was unhappy and took Boomer off the air for a few days IIRC.

It would look like Kirsch is hiring a team of Rider fans if he added Pedersen. Maybe Kirsch would have his Rider fan parties hosted by the Fan 960 again.
Pedersen would be a bad choice for a Calgary station.

Word around the internet is Roddy move was not really his choice. He allegedly said some uncomplimentary things about Rider management when he thought he wasn't on the air but he really was.
His announcement doesn't mean the new "opportunity" is imminent.

Good. I’m a Rider fan, but he would be a terrible choice. I actually enjoy the Stamps coverage on the station.
I remember one time he was on and he commented to Steinburg that he knew a guy who works out at Pat’s gym & all that Pat does is bicep curls.
What kind of unprofessional loser would say something like that.
It pains me to say that this is exactly the kind of unprofessional loser that the Fan960 would hire.... uhhhg...
The only enjoyable part of his hiring would be watching him and Pinder tear each other apart with smarmy arrogance as they battle it out for the title of smartest guy in the room.

That just sounds like some very tame ribbing.

Very true, and I enjoy a good ribbing of Pat. One thing about him is he doesn’t take himself seriously and is a good natured human.
I just know what Rod Roddy is like and I just found it awkward and stupid.

So being that I live in Regina I will add to this. I listen to the Fan 960 often. I like Boomer and Warrener. I love Steinberg and like Pinder.
Rod Pedersen is very opinionated, however I do like aspects of him. He is great at play by play, but screams to much for my liking. His sports show that he ran every day was very good when he isn't busy giving his buddies time on the air to pump up their business's. He is very full of himself and he is god awful homer. But NHL wise he used to be a Stars fan and now is a Coyotes fan. His old man was a scout for the Dallas Stars for years.
He recently said something on a TV show called in the huddle. I dont know what or against whom but it sounds like it may have caused him to leave Harvard and the riders. I cannot see him moving to Calgary but I guess if he was punted then maybe he did.

So I just learned that Adnan Virk was fired by ESPN...as i wondered why he hadnt been on in the mornings lately.
Great broadcaster and will land on his feet for sure, but the circumstances around his dismissal are odd to say the least.
