You can test this out for $35.

I tend to agree, that it could be a router issue. However it is handy to have one of those adapters anyway, and if you are still having speed issues on LAN you will determine what exactly is the issue.

Yeah, I think my shaw router is shot. Can't get the 5G channel anymore. It just quick working. It shows a signal, and you can connect, but nothing happens. You can't do anything. The 2.4 works.

Are you only using 5GHz to connect your WIFI devices ?
5GHz, doesn’t travel as far, but transfers at higher rates.
2.4GHz, travels further, at lower rates.

Yes I am. I only have wifi in my house. I'm in the same room as the router and I don't get anything out of the 5GHz channel.
When I moved here, I was on Telus 50, and had my apple Timecapsule hooked up to it. I recieved excellent signal throughout the house. My son started working for shaw, so I became his first sale. I went to Shaw 150, and connected my Timecapsule up to the router and used that for about a year and had a good signal throughout the house. Once in a while we'd experience downtime, but it'd come back after about 20 minutes. It went like this up until about 3 weeks ago, and then my signal started dropping regularly. Shaw blamed the timecapsule. I removed that from the equation while on the phone with Shaw. It didn't work at first, but they did something on their end, and it started working. I couldn't get a good signal in my garage or bedroom like I could before, but it was an improvement over the past few weeks. Now, it's just bad wherever I am in the house.

Just checking but is your shaw router "Bridged"?
If you have competing networks the Apple and Shaw devices it can be causing interference.

It isn't. It was bridged, but the wifi turned off and I was just using the Apple router then. I unplugged the apple router and we unbridged them based on Shaw's instructions. The apple router is completely dormant right now.

Just looking at dropping Shaw, What are the options for Flames games on the Internet? Is there something high quality available as a subscription? I suppose its more then that.
Basically, I would like see the Flames games(in HD), and the Montreal games.
I also like to see the EPL games. Non sports i would like basic news(CBC, CTV, and CNN) and an HBO package if possible.

Ummm NHL Gamecenter and SN Now both offer this.

EPL can be found on DAZN along with NFL and some combat sports. CBC and CTV have free over the air HD channels and HBO can be had Online also. Google is a great resource...

I don't have that much issue. Watch my streaming services on a 65" TV without many complaints. Almost everything I watch is in HD

EPL is not on DAZN in Canada. They do, however, have Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, English Championship, J-League, and if you're into NFL, apparently every single game.

All HD is not created equal... streaming has come a long way but it is a downgrade and less reliable
Just something to consider

I get that. I watch plenty of stuff in 4k from other sources, and I have to say the quality downgrade isn't what you think it is for regular tv shows that are streamed in HD. Do I need off grid builders in 4k? Or the first 48? No, so either 720p or 1080p is fine, these aren't some glitchy artifact filled bootleg streams. My hockey comes in HD as well. I watch it on a large tv with no complaints. Sure 4k is nice for plenty of content, I would love to get NHL in it but that's not available.

Who said anything about 4k?
Sports streams are a downgrade...if you don't mind then great, save some money.

Is streaming still a downgrade though? My experience is only anecdotal, but when I watch games on DAZN, the resolution and smoothness seems to be at least as good as what my Shaw cable box does. This is on a 1 year old 55" TV.
DAZN totally botched their NFL debut last year, and you can read a lot of hate online about it (and it all sounds pretty justified). But I choose a game, it starts playing with no errors or buffering, and the quality is indiscernible from Shaw, and maybe even better. I haven't done a side-by-side pixel count, but if there is a downgrade, I can't see it.

Well why don't you tell me the resolution range you were getting on about then. My sports streams appear to be just fine in HD on any of my HD and 4k TV's. So, at $5 a month, I see no reason to nitpick about whether its compressed slightly, or whatever for the alternative cost.

Its not about just about resolution...its bit rate/stability and reliability
What streams are you getting at $5 a month?
I have tested DAZN and the Sportsnet now vs. shaw by flipping between inputs and there is a noticeable difference. There is also a delay on streams vs. cable...not a big deal unless you are chatting about the game online
not saying its bad just that there are drawbacks people should be aware of

What service is this? I'd love something like this.
I am happy with my Telus Internet 150/150 unlimited usage for $90. But the Television portion is annoying, the boxes are always freezing and having to be rebooted. So cutting the cable is appealing.
