Default Desktop Customization?

I was browsing 4chan a lot recently for wallpapers under /wg/ (fyi it's a great place for wallpapers) and I noticed a lot of people had really cool desktop customization programs like rain meter, and others that mimiced a dock but in a more simple way. I noticed some people have re done their star menu and task bar icons (I have no idea how to do that with them pinned to the start menu) and then also some really cool programs where there's hotlinks on your desktop to common places like documents, music, media, etc.

I guess you could also maybe qualify this as a widgets thread? What y'all got CP?

Haven't seen my desktop in weeks, no idea. Maybe some documents sitting on it.

I had a nice Rain Meter setup on my PC before I reformatted.

It's a lot of work to get a good one setup, haven't bothered yet.

This.

I had rainmeter set up a while back and then realized I never ever saw it, so it went out the window.

I typically keep everything important on my storage drives, so reformatting my primary SSD isn't a huge deal, except that I forgot to back up my Rain Meter setup. I'm just used to being like "welp time to reformat" *boop*, goto Ninite/Steam/Origin *boop* and being good to go within 2 hours.

So I kinda lied, I do run this on my machines:
http://www.xericdesign.com/earthdesk.php

Every computer i've ever owned, including my palm pilots, phones, ipads, desktops, has had some app that can show me a sunlit earth. So this is what I currently use.

I actually subscribe to their high res cloud service, which looks gorgeous.

So I have a live wallpaper, but that's about it.
