And another pivotal cog in one of Edmonton's umpteen rebuilds finds a new home.

Cogliano was one of the few Ducks who could actually keep his head above water. Really dumb trade for Anaheim.

Cogliano has not played well this season. Probably a good change for both players.

Stars need better defensive forwards and the Ducks need more secondary scoring. Trade is a rare true hockey trade to deal with the needs of each team.

Edit: NVM, apparently Dallas is just fine on the defensive side, but could use more offense too.

The Ducks are five goals above the lowest scoring team in the league. My how the mighty have fallen.

What a season. Canucks seem far off from the Hughes sweeps, Oilers toiling in mediocrity, Ducks imploding, while the Flames are the surprise elite team of the year.

I seem to be having a difficult time shedding any tears for them. Pluck the Ducks.

How so? Ducks have lost a step so might as well get younger.

They traded for a more productive player that is 7 years younger

Man time sure does fly. Can't believe Coglinao is 31 going on 32.
Not a bad trade for Anaheim getting a player much younger and probably benefit from being able to pull the chute on 2 more years of Coglinao's contract.

Just looking at the stat lines, Shore is out producing Coglinao now.

In the sense that they are getting younger, I do agree with you. It does seem like the Ducks are still trying to win now however and I don't think Shore will help them do that better than Cogliano this season.

Or maybe Cogliano's linemates are propping him up and I'm an idiot.

From a production stand point Shore has 17 points in 42 games vs Cogliano who has 11 points in 46 games. Looking at their TOI they play similar minutes a game.

Ducks have found a way to get younger. If they are planning on doing a retool on the fly, this is how you do it.

Not sure what Cogliano's contract is like, but he's the kind of player I'd like the Flames to add at the deadline purely for the playoffs. Playoff experience and can contribute to scoring from the third line, though Calgary's third line is likely set, so that might force Cogliano to fourth line with Ryan and Hathaway, which might not be so bad.

3.25 million until 2021. He's having a terrible year and has just 8 points in his last 28 playoff games.

No thanks

Oooooo yeah that's not a good contract for his current performance. Pending UFA would have been ideal for the Flames.
