Some might think that missing out on the All Star game will hurt Giordano's Norris chances.
But if anything, it seems like the absurdity of Giordano not being an all star is a story in itself. And this story makes Gio's case for the Norris.
Quite a few stories on him lately

Agreed. This puts media pundits now advocating for how great Gio's season is and paying attention to his stats. This and the week off are better for Gio's chances than if he had gone to the game.

I think Brodie is an excellent player.
But it's Gio that makes him look like an all-star.

After that period, Gio is tied for 2nd in defencemen scoring, and is 1st in league +/- by 6 points.
Have seen it commented on here how amazing it is to see him top 3 in both of those categories so I went back a bit to find just how rare that is.
The last time a defenceman was both top 3 in both categories was Mike Green in 2009-10.
Green finished 3rd in league +/- and had 76 points leading all D.
He didn't win the Norris however, Duncan Keith did who had 69 points and +21.
In 2010/11; Chara was top 5 in both categories and last year Hedman was 5th in D scoring, 6th in +/- (won the Norris).
Incredibly rare combination of statistics. I can only imagine if Gio finishes 1st in both stats, not sure that has ever been done??

Giordano is playing so good this year, I’ll bet my life’s savings that he gets picked for the All-Star Game this season. Anyone know when the rosters are going to be announced?

I actually prefer Gio not going to the All Star game. Give him a rest.

Is there any proven track record of all stars falling apart because they're too tired from going to the game?
This keeps getting mentioned, but is it actually a thing?

I'm not doing a thorough search, but in 1971-72, Bobby Orr was second in the entire NHL with 117 points (44 more than the next defenseman) and tops with +83, 20 points higher than the next player. He was even better the year before when he was second in NHL scoring with 139 points (76 more than the next defenseman) and tops with +124. I am sure he did it many times.
There aren't many that had the top league +/- and the top scoring defenseman.

Holy moly, what a beast.
Didn't even think of going back that far, was just thinking recent era. Wish I got to watch Bobby Orr but was before my time.
Would call Nick Lidstrom the best I've seen in my time. Or Coffee or Bourque obviously as well.

If he keeps up this pace (unlikely but possible) and finishes with 86 points and +70 he should win the Hart let alone the Norris.
Last defenceman to win the Hart was Pronger in 99-00 his stat line was 14 goals, 48 assists for 62 points in 79 games with a +52.

That is why Orr is widely considered the best hockey player ever.

Eh, not so much anymore. He's solidly the consensus #2/3 at this point.

Absolutely -- I can't even remember if a defenseman has even been nominated since then?
