On this I disagree. The show is named Picard. By virtue of a Season 2 even existing, you know he ain't gonzo. Might as well get it out of the way.

And you knew what was happening as soon as the Gollum was revealed.

One question I had was did killing data end the ability to create more androids? The originally theory was growing the android out of data’s positronic Cells?

Based on the plethora of golden skinned people living on that planet, I think they're good for making more androids.

Man that was cartoon-level lazy writing.

“Here’s some magic tool that can somehow do anything you think of!”

Yeah thanks guys. I get that crazy stuff happens on Star Trek happens all the time, but at least they try to make it seem like there’s some technobabble explanation.

Presumably Picard is back in the good graces of Starfleet after his seemingly crazy rant has proven true. Wouldn't they kiss and make up and give him a ship and crew again?

So why did the undercover agent who spent years moving up the ranks infiltrating Star Fleet, becoming head of security, just leave and command an armada of Romulan ships?

Like how does that work exactly?

Also Riker is on Active Reserve and suddenly is captain of the Federation's Flag Ship leading a massive amount of battleships to defend against the Romulans?

What the hell? Like how does HR work? Line of command? How does any of that make sense?

The weird things I pick apart. Magic do anything tool? Meh, but I need an explanation of human resources in Star Trek and how retirees and secret agents get to command battles.

They explained it all at the start of the episode...

I watched Ep 9 twice and could not figure out why Maddox set up their secret missions this way. I think this and all other details are victims of the Kurtzman Effect.

Starfleet: "With the Utopia Planitia shipyards destroyed, we simply cannot spare a single ship more to help prevent the near-extinction of Romulan civilization."

Also Starfleet: "We sent a reserve captain out to meet the Zhat Vash fleet with our toughest, fastest, most powerful ship ever put into service. along with several hundred exact copies of it. good thing there's no refugee crisis right now tho, resources are very limited."

Romulans: "we are broken and scattered across the galaxy due to the destruction of our home system. we survive in dusty saloon towns and as butlers for retired Starfleet admirals."

Also Romulans: "We have the time and resources to run a Borg cube reclamation project, rehabilitating ex-drones in partnership with the Federation that we accuse of abandoning us. also, the secret branch of the secret branch of our military assembled the biggest fleet anyone has ever seen, in order to bomb an android community hall. but also these ships could not have been used for evacuation efforts either, sorry."

still, it was almost all worth it for Data's "The Good Place"-like send-off. that was almost some damn space onions time there.

Finally watched the last episode. Finally up and down.
Still prefer the TNG-Warbirds but the new design grew on me a bit in this episode.
Hated that they went with the obvious way to bring Picard back. Hate that they kept that cliche going. I'm aware that they had to bring him back, but this was telegraphed early on, as many others have pointed out.
Agree with Sureloss that it was extremely disappointing to see all one type of Federation starships. The best part of massed fleets in Star Trek before imo has always been seeing all the different types.
Also, no way would Starfleet put Riker in charge of the best ship in the fleet just because Picard sent a message. What kind of message does that send to her captain: "Sorry, we thought you were good enough to captain our best ship, but for this possible war against 218 Romulan warbirds, we're going to bring a guy out of retirement."
And Jurat's murder is just kind of okay now? Extenuating circumstances, but wouldn't that be for an actual legal system to decide

But I don't want to sound like i hated all of it or was disappointed overall. The scenes between Data and Picard were some of Star Trek's finest.

The fight between Seven and Narek's sister was well-done.
Soongh finding out what Sohji's sister did and outing her was surprising in a good way.

That was like the whole last 10 minutes of the Episode.

Anyhoodles, I am kind of on-board.

If you boil it down and analyze it thoroughly, the idea that this entire season was the paranoid schizophrenic delusions of a sick and dying old man crossed with a sick joke by cold, unfeeling synthetics...a whole lot more of the insane plot points make a degree of sense.

I think what kind of ruined it for me was knowing that Picard was dying of the space-crazies while simultaneously knowing that the series had been picked up for another season.

So you just knew something was coming.

Considering the wacky theories I personally had this one barely cracked the Top 5 so...not bad.

Now that we can put this all behind us and 'Galactic Insanity' is no longer on the table it will be interesting to see where this series goes next.

Maybe Riker will re-retire and Picard will become Grand Poobah of Starfleet's Intergalactic Navy? Sheer Hubris? Then he can realize that he was wrong all along and that the Romulans were interstellar space-trash and he can use his newfound authority and resources to do a complete 180 and hunt them down and exterminate them?

All those factions that opposed saving the Romulans in the first place would be super-stoked and Picard can become akin to some space-faring Donald Trump erecting energy-shield walls wherever he goes and making the Romulans pay for them?

Then he can team up with Worf, who is undoubtedly the Grand Imperial Wizard of Klingonia by now and they can seek out and destroy their enemies using a Droid Army and perhaps even unlawfully blocke segments of space in contravention of an intergalactic trade agreement?

So many possibilities now!

Cell phones/internet ruined the capability of TV shows to keep things under wraps. There will never be another "Who Shot Mr. Burns?"

Sam Beckett quantum leaps into the body of Captain Archer, who then time travels and meets prime Lorca, and they team up to defeat mirror-Picard, that has teamed up with prime-Worf to get some Klingon revenge for all the times prime-Picard shut him down.

As part of my self-isolation ritual (and in no small part because of the new series) I have gone back and am binge-watching the original TNG. It's fun! I might jump into DS9 next (It's been a long time, but I remember DS9 being a more sophisticated, deeper take on the whole Star Trek universe).

DS9 is the best of the series imo, but I have a soft spot for TNG because it was really my first foray into Star Trek.

The first couple seasons were terrible, though.

TNG is pure nostalgia for me. And if I had to pick my favourite characters, they're always TNG. Riker. Data. Worf. Crusher. The best one-off episodes are TNG too.

But DS9 as a continuity, as a full series, is just untouchable. Sisko is also the best Captain.

It's true. I just finished season 2 on the weekend, and was surprised about how awful most of the episodes were. The season 2 finale was a frikkin' clip-show!

Having said that, there are a few gems in the catalogue like S1E7"Justice," S1E12 "Datalore," S1E21 "Symbiosis," and S2E9 "The Measure of a Man."

Just a reminder as we move away from Picard and back in to in-between, we do have a general discussion thread here for all your random Star Trek musings:

I watched the extended version of “measure of a man” off of my blue ray the other day. So Good. TV doesn’t get much better than that.
