Default Suggestions: Portable DVD Player Repair

We have a portable DVD player, pretty sure it's Phillips. When I go to load a disc in it, it takes a while, then registers that its a DVD, or a DVD-R or whatever. Then the motors run... and run... and run... and run... and nothing. No video, just that main screen saying that it's a DVD.

I'm heading into surgery at the end of the month, and would like to take this thing in with me so I don't have to convert a bunch of movies on to my iPod Video.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could this be a quick fix, or is there someone in the city that knows of someone who can fix this quickly and cheaply?

Probably as expensive to repair it than to just replace it?

Just called Philips. It's outside of warrenty, and if there's a repair to be done, they would replace it for about $120... depending on the situation.

It was a gift, so to replace it at this point would be slightly pointless. It would suck... But hoping that there's a Philips dealer, or a repair shop somewhere in town that can take a look at it, and hopefully fix for cheap.
