No. Rheault is on an AHL deal. Be interesting to see if they sign him assuming he can keep up his play.

He is on an AHL contract but I recall reading that the Flames have an option to match any NHL offer he might get.

And they are the last games the Heat play until their visit to Calgary.

It's an off-day in the Dub, so here's a quick rundown of Flames WHL prospects:
Ryan Howse (Chilliwack, 19) - 51 games, 35 goals, 25 assists (60 points), -21
Max Reinhart (Kootenay, 19) - 55 games, 27 goals, 33 assists (60 points), +24
Spencer Bennett (Vancouver, 20) - 55 games, 27 goals, 25 assists (52 points), +14
Patrick Holland (Tri-City, 19) - 50 games, 17 goals, 31 assists (48 points), +9
Michael Ferland (Brandon, 18) - 40 games, 13 goals, 27 assists (40 points), -3
Joey Leach (Kootenay, 19) - 45 games, 4 goals, 19 assists (23 points), +15
Ferland, Holland, Reinhart and Leach have another year of junior left.
Bennett and Howse are eligible to join the AHL next year.

Which means that he's as "eligible" for the AHL as everyone else that is too dang old for major junior.
But yeah, he's an over-ager now, so he's heading to Abbotsford. Or Utah.

Most likely Abbotsford... but who knows. They might be over injected with youth at the moment.

So all five of our forwards are averaging about a point per game in the WHL. That's pretty good.

I thought Bennett would be eligible to play in the WHL in 11-12, as I had been told previously that the cut-off is that players are eligible as long as they are 20 to start the regular season. I wanted to find some sort of confirmation, however there are no official sources to be found. The best I could come up with was:
Quote:
CHL/WHL Guidelines
Age for the CHL is calculated from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Thus for the 2006-2007 Season anyone born in 1986 will be considered a 20 yr. old. Anyone born in 1990 is a 16 yr. old.
|
http://www.whlfans.ca/printthread.php?t=2598
This would indicate that Bennett (being 21 in the year 1991) is not eligible to play in the WHL. This is obviously a dated entry, but was the only evidence I could find.

While looking through the Kotalik article, found this interesting comment on Negrin. Sucks that the first surgery was not done properly:
Quote:
Second-year defenceman John Negrin, returning from knee surgery, was an energetic participant at morning skate on Friday.
"It's starting to feel pretty good," said Negrin, who rejoined the Heat on the road last week to skate with the team. "I've still got to get into some battle drills, but if I were to guess, I'd like to be back in a couple weeks."
Negrin had surgery last March to repair a broken kneecap, but one of the screws broke over the summer, necessitating a second procedure to remove the screws and a bone fragment.

Also - Howse had two goals, Holland a single, and Reinhart an assist in other Dub action.
