Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
Looks like Andersson will not play. Bartkowski in. F. Hamilton coming in for Lazar. #Flames

Per Kristen Odland's twitter:

Quote:
Lots of questions at the Saddledome here this AM. Does Rittich play (currently in the starter's net as @AAVickers pointed out. No Smith, shooter tutor in the other net)? Is Andersson replacing Bartkowski in tonight's lineup? What does it all mean, find out in just a few minutes.
EDIT: False alarm as Mike Smith gets the start, Bartkowski in for the injured Hamonic.

"hey we'll call you up but you're not gonna play" Hope there's a good explanation for this.

Except he gets paid his NHL salary while he's with the team. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

I think beyond the likely NHL pay for good work in the AHL, is the possibility that if Hamonic is not ready to go next week, they would want to make sure they have the extra defenseman ready to go. Having him get a couple practices and skates in with the team before being asked to possibly suit up is only prudent.

There probably isn’t and the hockey operations department from the Flames is drafting up the explanation and apology letter that it owes to fans in these situations.

Let's hope Freddie can inject some energy into the fourth line tonight. He's effective when he's on, but that rarely happens.

Andersson hasn't practiced with the team. Bart has. Andersson now gets his NHL salary, which is substantially more than his AHL salary. It is very common to bring up someone from the AHL and they don't play the first night, and sometimes not at all. They are there for depth in case of an injury or performance reason.

This doesn't seem like rocket science to me. Is any explanation actually required besides common sense?
