Still can't believe they went with the Atlanta Flames logo. How awesome is that.

At about 100 miles away, Utica is the second-closest team to the Flames. That will likely be the team the Flames play most. Abbotsford played Utica 12 times last year, same as the Phantoms played Albany, despite being on opposite sides of the continent. Petrovek said the Flames will still play Albany but not as much.

Using Utica as a barometer, the Flames can still expect to play several games in the Eastern Conference. Last season, Utica played 11 of its 38 road games against Eastern Conference teams and 21 road games were within 300 miles of home. Utica played every team in the conference except Charlotte and Grand Rapids at least once.

How much the Flames will have to travel won't be known for certain until the full schedule is released in August.

Petrovek said he expected fans to enjoy this division. He theorized there must be a few Sabres fans in the region who will enjoy seeing Rochester, and that the knowledgeable fan base would appreciate Original Six organizations in Hamilton (Montreal Canadiens) and Toronto (Toronto Maple Leafs).

Actually the Oklahoma City Barons used to be in the same division but we are now North and they are in the West. Same conference though.

Rochester was in Utica's Division last season, and they didn't play the Heat once. If you look at Rochester's schedule last year, they had one road trip to the south (Texas, OKC, San Antonio) and one to the Midwest (Iowa, Chicago, Milwaukee, Rockford). Otherwise, they stayed pretty close to home.

Sorry, I forgot Oklahoma was Edmonton's team . . . Does Montreal still use Hamilton as their AHL affiliate?

Not sure if this have been asked or mentioned in any threads. But do we know what there jerseys look like yet? Or is it safe to assume its just the Flaming A on the same Abbotsford jerseys.

We don't have any confirmation yet on the jerseys. Last I heard, they should be releasing something this month.

CGY Flames

Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
Raymond - Monahan - Jones
Br Bollig - M Stajan - Colborne
Da Wolf - L Bouma - McGrattan

Byron, Hanowski

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Wideman
L Smid - Engelland
Cundari

Hiller
Ramo

Addy Flames

Baertschi - Granlund - Reinhart
Gaudreau - C Knight - J Jooris
M Ferland - B Arnold - Poirier
Agostino - Tousignant - Vanbrabant

Hathaway, Elson
Possibly Austin Carroll, Carter Bancks as well

Wotherspoon - Acolatse
Sieloff - Ramage
Kulak - Culkin

Possibly Eric Roy as well

Ortio
Thiessen

43 NHL contracts
2 AHL contracts

I don't see a lot of room there for high level AHL vets.

I know there will be injuries, but with what's listed above right now a guy like Agostino is on the 4th line for hecks sake. Sign too many AHL vets and some of the prospects will suffer from it more than they'll benefit from it IMO.

Maybe this is a big reason why they hired a coach who has excelled with young players, and who also likes to roll his entire bench out there throughout the game.

I wouldn't mind rolling with six defenders in Calgary and putting Cundari in Adirondack to start. Culkin will be a little over his head at the beginning, so pacing him will be beneficial. Also, we'll have to see how Ramage has progressed to see if he's AHL-calibre yet.

Yeah, that'd be fine I'm sure but I wasn't trying to predict who makes the Flames, or lines or anything like that.

Just trying to wrap my head around where in the heck this young team is supposed to fit in AHL veterans.

For example, signing a guy like Street would have made the AHL Flames a better team for sure, but at the cost of ice time for a solid prospect like Arnold or Knight.

Will be interesting to see who, if anyone, the Flames brass add to the AHL fold from here to seasons start.

Wotherspoon will probably start in Calgary.

Ramage is 23 years old. If he's not capable of playing on the bottom pairing for the Heat next season then might as well release him.

What's the deal with Ramage anyway? In my limited viewings, he looked comfortable with the puck on his stick, he was a good skater, and he's physical. Why hasn't he put it all together yet?

At the very least, Ramage had a spectacular role in Aces Championship play off run.

Hopefully he can build off that, his 50 games of AHL experience and have a solid 2014/15 season.
