Flames Talbot Jersey Number?

With BSD & Talbot both donning #33 will necessitate either one of them give in for a brand new number.

Will Rittich give up his #33 to Talbot or should Talbot adopt a totally different number?

I irrationally love jersey number discussions so this is gonna be my favourite thread of the summer.

I bet that Talbot switches to 31. Rittich stays with 33.

Davidson will wear 22 in camp and if he's called up.

Hope Mangiapane stays with 88, Janko with 77 if he sticks around.

I’m leaning toward the ‘unorthodox goalie jersey number’ camp for Talbot. Some ideas include switching to Smitty’s #41 or #38 or #83 (play on #33) or the boring #35....

Talbot seems more attached to #33 than Rittich does. He has worn it everywhere going back to at least his university days. Rittich has worn #39 in Stockton and at the World Championships.

It would be funny if Talbot switched to 41 though. Smith can then switch to 33 in Edmonton, and since they are both fairly large men, they may be able to just trade gear with each other as well.

Looks like Talbot will stick with 33 and somehow I want to see BSD donning #1 which hasn’t been worn for a while by a Flames tender.

Elliott and Hiller both wore #1. They weren't that long ago.

Too bad #00 is outlawed league-wide by the NHL since Biron last worn it, otherwise will be fitting for BSD. Meanwhile, no tender can top Kostinen’s #19 as the most unorthodox/unusual choice for a goalie number since Darren Puppa donned the trailblazing #93 in the Tampa expansion era....

Appleby’s (NJ) #55, Holtby’s #70 & Weekes’ #80 also topped the list for unorthodox goalie jersey numbers. I recall European soccer had 3-digit jersey numbers ...

Meanwhile in Florida, it appears that Bobrovsky purchased #72 from Frank Vatrano for a Rolex and a year's worth of dinners...

Wow. That’s expensive. It’s no wonder Bobrovsky pushed for $10.0 m AAV.

...who is Frank Vatrano??

Talbot's been around longer. The code says Rittich gives up 33. And apparently eats free for a year if he plays his cards right.

I've only heard of that "jersey code" for the international teams - Fleury in the Olympics (Shanahan had like 1 yr seniority) & Iginla in his first Olympics.

In the NHL if you want a particular number you gotta pay the player who has it regardless of that player's tenure in the league - it's tenure on the team that counts.

He scored 24 goals last year after finally landing a full time role in Florida. Penciled in as the 2nd/3rd line winger for the coming season.
