Adirondack Flames (18-10-1-0) vs Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres) (10-17-1-0)
#32 - Patrick Sieloff
Sieloff, a defenceman born in Ann Arbour, MI, was drafted by the Flames with their 2nd pick (42nd overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to playing with the Flames, Sieloff spent a season with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL as well as played with the US National Development Team. He won gold with the USA in the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships. Sieloff is technically in his first Pro year as he lost the entire 2013-14 season (less 2 games with the Heat) to a serious staph infection that forced him to stop all training and spending significant time in the hospital and on medication. He announced he was staph free for a year on December 16th.

Yea, Rochester is one of those odd teams that show the game starting at 5 minutes past the hour or half hour. Most start that time anyway, but they print it as such.
And our team plays in EST so almost all games start at 5pm Calgary time now.

Vause has been scratched every game since the majority of the Flames prospects have come back. Strangely enough, they released Reid on Tuesday, but still kept Vause. I haven't heard or seen anything about him getting a SPC yet.
My non-expert guess is that perhaps they are keeping Vause on the PTO (since it only restricts games played, not time with the team) knowing that the NHL Flames will probably have call ups and such and so they can keep him practicing their system and be game ready for when they do need him. Sort of a "Black Ace" dealie that you would see in the NHL Playoffs. The guy is a part of the team, practices with the team, game ready but scratched and in the press box.
Huska really likes him and hasn't been shy about saying it, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them try to keep him as long as they can.

I'm a fan of him myself, will definitely come in handy down the stretch. Though I feel kind of bad for the kid if we're doing that to him, since my understanding is he only gets paid after every game played. Could be a long sojourn to the bench

Thanks Drury!
After a 1-5-1 start (which was every bit as ugly as the record would suggest), the Flames have gone 17-5-0 since.
And Ortio's play mirrors the dichotomy of those record segments.

Just a question about Ortio... Is he inconsistent? Or did he and everyone just have a rough start at the beginning of the year?

What we are seeing now is more normal for Ortio. What he was doing at the start of the season was absurd. He looked like he was uncomfortable. Now, he looks like he can take on anything.

Could he potentially and eventually be the #1 goalie for the Calgary Flames?

The problem I see in his game is that he crouches too far down, which exposes too much of the top portion of the net. He isn't tall enough to get away with being that crouched. I think his upside is around the same level as Ramo is. Not bad, but not vital to keep around either.
I don't know what it is about his starts, he was awful at the beginning of last year as well. That will need to be addressed as well. You can't have a goalie suck for the first month of the year if you want to be successful long term.

I think he'll be the backup next year in place of Ramo, as we wait for Gillies and MacDonald to emerge. Those two will be the longer term starter candidates for the Flames.

I believe he will be. He's skilled enough and he's mentally capable enough to be a goalie in the NHL.
He doesn't lose games often for his team letting in weak goals or making poor plays. He does steal wins for them coming up big and making saves at key times. He gains the trust of the team quickly and works well with his defence.
I see no reason why he wouldn't be an NHL goalie.

I've been having issues the last few games. It doesn't work until about halfway through the 1st and then cuts out several times.
I was blaming the laptop as it is a little on the old side.
EDIT: There's about 10 tweets to @AHLLive on Twitter with people unable to access. It's not you.

Setoguchi has an upper body injury. Has not been at practice all week, is not playing.
Don't have any details more specific then that.
