Default Flames 2 Habs 1

Game Takes: Flames 2 Habs 1

- Sutter is 1-0-0 on the season
- Flames only give up 18 shots on goal
- Fourth line carries the way with new balance
- Josh Leivo with his 2nd and 3rd on the season

Waking up in Sweden to a 2-1 Sutter win where the fourth line dominates.

What year is this?

It says a lot when Sutter has the 4th line playing the final 47 secongs of the game. Play well and you will be rewarded.

Great write-up Bingo! Any thoughts on how our big guns, Tkachuck, Lindholm, Monahan and Gaudreu looked? Didn't notice them alot from the extended NHL.com highlights.

I do think you need the caveat for the win being that Montreal was tired - and that Montreal had a relatively easy night against Vancouver the night before where they didn't have to fight for every inch out there, which I think was a bit of a shock to their system tonight. I 100% agree with that point.

I think that good teams win most of the games when they play well, and they consistently play well. There is the old saying that "Good teams find a way to win", which usually references the odd time that they play poorly, but manage to steal a win.

Flames have been 'stealing wins' for most of the season I would say, on the backs of their goaltending for the most part, or getting some lucky breaks at times.

Tonight is the first time this season that I saw this team be the legitimately dominant team on the ice since the first game or two of the season. Even in the blowout wins against Ottawa, I thought the Flames were giving up too much and still reliant on goaltending. Just a really refreshing night.

I look forward to seeing the rest of the season unfold. I hope for some more dominant wins, and for Markstrom (and Rittich) to throw some cold water on any 'potential steals' from the opposing teams.

Team is going to lose - hopefully they will lose more often to the bad bounces or running into a hot goalie, rather than being outplayed, but I bet it will be a very rare night from now on that they will be out-worked.

It's extremely telling that Darryl was able to get this group to play a better defensive game on his first day on the job than Ward was able to squeeze out of them in his entire tenure.

Still a lot of work to be done but god was it nice not to be sitting on pins and needles feeling like the team was poised to collapse at any second. Just a solid, confident game which is something I can't even remember seeing from this group in a long time. The Flames needed to win, and they got the job done.

It was nice to read a PGT without all the gloom and doom.

Does anyone have a GIF of the first down gesture by Sutter after Leivo's first goal that Bingo mentioned?

We need that north south reminder. I suspect we are going to see a number of breakout goals rest of this season like that.
