As good as the Bolts are doing - they are still going to have to get through Boston. That's not going to be an easy out at all.
Both of those teams scare the shirt out of me. But the good news is a lot of other nifty things have to happen before we would have to worry about that. And then - what a nice ting to worry about!

Tampa could go 9-10-0 the rest of the way and still finish ahead of the 89 Flames.

Both Calgary and Tampa have played 63 games this year. Tampa is ahead of Calgary by 13 points, as they hit the 100 point mark tonight. Tampa is on pace for 130 points. That would crush the 1988-89 Calgary team's record of 117 points in 80 games. That would fall 2 points shy of the 1976-77 Canadiens mark of 132 points in 80 games. It would beat the 129 points the 1977-78 Canadiens earned, but they also did that in 80 games. The 1995-96 Red Wings achieved 131 points in 82 games.

The blue snake is up on the purple snake by 8 points and 13 points on the blue snake.

The 2012-13 Blackhawks played a shortened season but were on pace for >131 points and won the cup that year. Probably the best comparable to this year's Tampa in recent memory.

The '89 flames didn't have 6 shootout wins and didn't get a point for 3 OT losses so take those 9 points off and they would need to go 13-6 to actually be better.
Plus, it was an 80 game season back then

Tonight's win moves the red snake to a new season high of 14.073 points above the black line, 16 points above the purple snake and 15 points above the orange snake. This marks the 44th consecutive game above the black line, with a minimum of 12 (new high!) more guaranteed. A record of 3-14-1 (0.194 point percentage) in the remaining 18 games would give the red snake 96 points. It is currently on pace for 114 points.

The Flames are 36-11-7 since the home loss to Pittsburgh. That works out to a 120 point pace over 82 games if I've done my math right. That's 6 points better than their current pace of 114.

Games 43-51: 17 points in 9 games
Games 52-57: 4 points in 6 games
Games 58-64: 14 points in 7 games

I remember the great slump of 2019. It was the worst of times. May the scholars write stories about how they were able to recover from that horrible time.

Squiggs has to keep making it bigger to fit snek. Otherwise we’d literally be off the charts good.

95/96 Wings may have had 131 points and the best team money could buy...

...but they didn’t even win their conference when the playoffs were done.

This season is a long way from over.

With the loser point...

89 Flames are the better team and unless TB wins the Cup (against the 2nd best team in the NHL who had 115 points), there is zero argument otherwise.

Removing the OT loser point, and the shutout winning point (instead counting it as a tie)

The Lightning are on pace (over 80 games) for:
53.75 Wins
18.75 Losses
7.5 Ties
115 Points

Pretty similar to the 89 Flames:
54 Wins
17 Losses
9 Ties
117 Points

So pretty much same wins, one difference in tie/loss. Pretty similar.

Maybe, but I'd do the reverse, and give the 89 Flames the extra point in every single tie, just because how do you beat those guys in OT? And give them 2 more wins, for the same reason.
