I still like him! But also can’t see the fit happening. The team can’t even give its own prospects/projects icetime let alone someone else’s.
Would take him in a vacuum though.

Yamamoto and Murray now magically on LTIR to make room for Kane. What a joke

I don't know how the League can keep letting them get away with such blatant circumvention. Embarrassment, indeed.

The league knows the absolute meltdown that would happen in Edmonton if they miss the playoffs this year. I think it's safe to say at least one or both of McDavid and Draisaitl would demand a trade and the Oilers would again head into the doldrums as the worst team in the league (by a mile) and the league again would have to deal with them winning the lottery for the next decade. May even result in the team moving as Katz would probably offload the team since his princesses and Oilers team of the 80s would be gone

Yep
Unfortunately the oilers generate way too much revenue for the league to have to be compliant

I would trade a 4th for him at 50% retained.

how can one just use LTIR at will like that?
doesn't seem right
Oliver probably isn't playing this year and we're unable to LTIR him to this point, which also seems not right because that's legitimately a player out long term
Yamamotos situation is short term
de-fuq

The league doesn’t give a rats ass!! They are compliant in doing all they can to get Connor And the Oilers in to the playoffs. Could you imagine if the Flames tried the same shenanigans?

The league made us play with 2 less players when we had legitimate injuries.

I'm not sure about the 'back dating' but you cant bank LTIR so if Yamamoto was injured and it was relatively short-term then there really wasnt any benefit to putting him on LTIR, but now that they need the cap space for Kane there is.
Whats really funny though is that at some point they're going to have to re-activate Yamamoto which means somebody's gotta go.
If you want to be really pissed at circumvention, then be pissed that Keith 'retired' and then almost immediately got a Front Office job with the Oilers.
Presumably for 'compensation unknown but really, really similar to what he left on the table from his contract.'
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

truly a pathetic, withering way for Duncan Keith to go out
Mike Smith didn't go for a physical testing either, even though they claimed he "failed it"
I guess no one wants to fly up to Edmonton to investigate the depth of circumvention going on because Edmonton
