My experience and impression from driving in Vancouver is heavily influenced from driving into Vancouver... Everyone seems to start getting into and clogging up the left lane around, oh, Hope. Ineptitude is putting it nicely.

One of the things that I think is important to remember, especially within the context of someone from Calgary, is the nature of the traffic system of the City.
Calgary is fantastic. It has a fairly standard and easy to understand grid system with major arteries in main directions until you get closer to older parts of the City.
Vancouver, like Toronto and Montreal, is a bit of a ####-mix. They just slapped roads together wherever and whenever they needed them, but they then had to dodge around all the crap that was already there in conjunction with the inherent obstacles of the surrounding landscape.
So yeah, drivers in those cities seem to wander around like they're completely lost because they probably are.

heard a water cooler stat that there were 1000+ amputations due to frostbite in Calgary last winter. Pretty scary figure if it's true.

I think we’d all like to see a legitimate source back that up. Close to 1% of the city’s population losing body parts seems pretty high.

I think you better check your math there, bud.
Putting a small space heater on a WiFi smart socket in the (unheated) garage was a game-changer. It is so nice getting into a vehicle cabin that is already warm.
It would be nice if the garage itself was heated, but eh.

Yeah, the problem with those cities is there are no intuitive shortcuts or alternate routes. When traffic gets goobered, and if you don’t have Waze or something guiding you, then you’re likely to end up 40km out of your way before you can make your way back if you try some side street.

As I said, water cooler talk. If someone lost 9 fingers and 10 toes does that count as 19? I don't think it's entire limbs lost.

I think the math is off on that and an individual can have more than one amputation...

I keep meaning to do this but I never do... and I already have the heater and extra smart plugs. But I'm also still stuck behind a Proslat installation in my garage so that I can get two vehicles in there without worry vs currently, just 1. I'm old... I have lists of incomplete chores now .

It did spike last winter compared to normal but I'm positive it was still just in the high hundreds

High hundreds makes more sense. 1000+ is a very significant number.

Sorry I was actually misreading. High hundreds being the amount of frostbite cases, actual amputations I'm sure wasn't over 100

I’m not sure. But I should probably avoid making any bets on it.

Never believe everything you hear at the watercooler. It's like the internet, but more moist.

This happens in New York too, especially cabbies, though there's some lovely custom there where you open palm smack the roof of their car a couple times to let em know I'm walkin here, which was all sorts of fun. Pretty sure you'd be in a fight doing that anywhere else on the continent.
