Remember when Vancouver passed on him? Ha! No joke, Tkachuk had 3.5 hours of footage when I laid it all out in my project timeline. Gaudreau for comparison had about 2 hours.
Gotta think Mike Smith is happy to be on Tkachuk's side now based on the number of times Smith threw a punch into Tkachuk's face. He wasn't the only goalie to do so this season either. The 3M line was really incredible, I loved how Backs and Frolik kept mentioning they've never had to be in so many scrums before thanks to Tkachuk. What a greasy SOB.
Another quick note, Tkachuk behind the back/between the leg passes on the boards are absolutely insane, his passing ability is on such a high level for his age.

On that play in particular, I recall Blues fans going "Man thank God Allen saved that, if the little sh*t scored on that kind of a play I don't think I could've handled it"

Still defensible IMO. They had just drafted Boeser, Virtanen, Shinkaruk with 3 of their last 4 first rounders and had Baertschi and Granlund as young wingers. You can't build a whole team of wingers when it's the least important position in the game. I argued with their fans beforehand that they were unlikely to take Tkachuk and IMO had to secure a centre or a dman out of that draft. Obviously the Canucks had targeted PL Dubois and maybe should've considered Sergachev over Juolevi but it sure sounded like the Flames would've taken Juolevi had Tkachuk not been on board so hard to criticize that pick unless you're using hindsight.
IMO what they did made perfect sense. Much harder to find top 3 defencemen than wingers. It was very lucky for us that wing was not a position of dire need for them and therefore they were prioritizing C/D over it. That's why you should always take BPA but I understand why they drafted positionally instead and expected them to do it.
The far bigger mistake they made was taking Virtanen over Nylander/Ehlers and rushing him to the NHL which may have ruined his development. If they had Nylander as a young centre they might've been able to take Tkachuk so the problem compounded itself

Hard to believe those highlights are from a rookie. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with improved foot speed and getting even stronger. He will be a force.

Aw come on AC, you can watermark your initials over all the broadcast footage, but you can't get rid of Grossmann from a clip? Just make him blurry or block out his name...just do something! I deeply want to forget that he ever played regular season games for the Flames.
