Wishing Smid all the best. Too bad injuries have really hurt him.

No, we have too many defenceman as it is. The whole situation is already clouding up the futures of Nakladal and Wotherspoon with the club, and throwing another defencemen into the carousel doesn't benefit anyone.

If Smid retires he leaves money on the table right? I'm sure he would just LTIR it out.

One more year a the 3.whatever he has left. Who knows if he retires or not. If he is done, LTIR is just fine too.

Smid is owed $4 million this year and is unlikely to get another pay day that rich. Highly doubtful he retires. LTIR is the most likely option.

Hoping once Smid goes on LTIR we see Nakladal signed still.

Players can't be LTIR'd until the season begins on October 12.

If Smid goes on LTIR it would free up some coin for a trade deadline acquisition.

I've got a lot of time for Smid. He played hard when he was healthy and played hurt. His request to go down to the farm to get some game time is also something that you have to respect.
Plus I love how he told everyone how hard the Flames practices were compared to the Oilers.
Wish him the best no matter what.

Flames brass themselves said they want to add a defenseman that shoots left. There might also be an agreement in place with Nakladal to sign him once Smid goes on LTIR, as it is kind of weird for him to have not signed anywhere by now. Either another NHL team wants him or he would go back to the KHL

There's no way that the Nakladal hasn't been offered a contract elsewhere in the NHL yet.

How can you be so sure? Were I Nakladal I would jump at the first contract offered. He isn't a star and there are no guarantees for him.

Nakladal was alright in his time here but I fail to see all the love he gets. Sign him as a 6/7 for sure but it is not a huge loss of he is not retained
