Default Shane Doan, Arizona Coyotes agree on 1-year deal

Quote:
A source confirmed to Arizona Sports on Monday that captain Shane Doan and the Coyotes have agreed on a one-year deal to bring Doan back for a 21st NHL season.

No dollar figures have been confirmed, but there exists the possibility that to be able to earn something close to what Doan made last season, when he earned $4.55 million (with a cap hit of $5.3 million), there could be a signing bonus, incentives and deferred payments involved in the deal that will likely bring its worth to about $5 million.

Doan’s four-year, $21.2 million contract expired July 1 following one of the most productive seasons of his career. He led the Coyotes with 28 goals, the third-best total of his career, and he recorded his second career hat trick.

Have to think this will be his last contract. I hope he retires a Coyote.

I actually think he'll play three more years, but at his age, even one more productive season is remarkable. Great career.

Per @craigsmorgan, Doan's 1 year deal will have $2.5M salary, a deferred signing bonus and performance bonuses that bring deal to ~$5M AAV.

Hard to believe that he's been in the league for 21 years and been basically loyal to one franchise.

Even in a thread about a Shane Doan contract signing the spectre of the Oilers are No Good rears its ugly head.

In the 1995 amateur draft hosted by Edmonton as the fans chanted Doans name the Oilers stepped up on stage at number 6 and announced. The Oilers are proud to select Steve Kelly from the Prince Albert Raiders.

21 years later Shane Doan has played 1466 games, scored 396 goals and 1305 points. Steve Kelly played 149 games and scored 9 goals and 21 points.

Curious comment, why do you think three more?

As desperate as Vancouver is to reach the playoffs, Doan would have been a perfect linemate for the Sedins. This will be his last contract. Very rare a player stays with one franchise their entire career.

Does anyone loves losing more than Shane Doan?

Or is wife is telling him that if he moves her out of Arizona, he's a dead man. I'd find that more believable, lol.

That is a cheap ####ing shot by Blundell. Name 3 guys that have actually moved as free agents late in their career who actually won a championship, and I can probably find you 10 who lost out.

His mention of David West in the NBA is a joke. The guy is taking less money to sign with a new team every year and the team he chooses ends up losing, maybe the problem is West ruining the chemistry of teams he signs with.

I would prefer players who stay where they are happy instead of moving every couple years.

It has nothing to do with his wife, he has a large horse ranch there he loves. Combine that with year round nice weather and that is where he wants to be. Some players care more about location then a chance to win a Cup.

It isn't that he loves losing, that is ridiculous. He just doesn't care more about winning than where he is living and playing the game.

Great post, but I knew something was wrong with the career points total you posted, it seemed too high for Doan so I took the liberty to fact check. Doan never had 1305 points. He has 1305 penalty minutes, and 945 points in 1466 games. He hasn't yet reached the 1,000 point mark, and will need 55 points this year to do so.

Chances of that two-bit hack ever repeating his pathetic drivel to Doan in person? Less than zero. Gutless puke.

Hilarious that Durant gets absolutely destroyed for moving teams for a better chance to win and a Doan gets eviscerated for not moving

As I said before, He has also decided to take a young boy from here into his home and home school him while he gets to train and play hockey in Phoenix. I would say while winning a cup would be amazing for him his priorities in his life are lined up just fine.

Well he did make his opinion known publicly, and he attached his name to it. Not like he's on a forum message board hiding behind a fake monicker with a picture of a celebrity. What more do you really want?

I want to see him repeat his ludicrous slurs to Doan, in person. But that will never happen, as I already said, because the two-bit hack is gutless.
