After reading some of the stories coming out of there, this isn't a surprise. Regardless of that, he's a lock for the Hall of Fame. Best of luck, Lou. He truly started the modern era of building from the goalie out.

Too bad for Leafs fans they are getting the Lamoriello that's run a thoroughly mediocre team for well over a decade. IMO he's well past his expiry date as a top GM in the NHL.

It will be interesting to see how Lamoriello works with all the staff already in place.

Did a great job for a long time in New Jersey, but other than a bit of a fluke run to the Finals a few years ago, he hasn't really done a great job managing the Devils since the 2005 lock out IMO.

Wonder how this affects the Leafs' rebuild. He refused to rebuild in NJ.

So the Leafs hired a GM and an asst coach for Babcock in one hiring. What an odd turn of events, I don't think he is the right GM for the Leafs but maybe he's hired to mentor Kyle Dubas.

It will be really interesting to see how Brendan Shanahan bosses around Lamoriello and Babcock with the years of experience they have over him.

Okay, bit of an odd turn of events here. Like a previous poster said, perhaps he's there to mentor Dubas. Very left field.

I think it's pretty clear that there was some substantial meddling by the owner in Jersey over the past five years.

Still though, just when you think the Leafs are going for the new management style they turn to the oldest of the old school GMs. Maybe they realize that they need a wizened, thick skinned, skull cracker to be sandwiched between the fan pressure and the insistence of ownership to build a winner.

Isn't Lamoriello a control freak that needs to have a say in everything? How does that work with the current set up they have?

This strikes me as a bad idea. Is a 72 year old guy really going to want to lead a rebuild?
