Default Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2016 - Round 28

It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaack. almost like Shark Week on the Discovery Channel Calgarypuck and the Summer Prospect Ranking has become an institution for rabid Calgary hockey fans.

2013 - Sean Monahan is the top prospect (2013)

2014 - Johnny Gaudreau takes his turn (2014)

2015 - Sam Bennett come on down! (2015)

The last three years have had a prospect named first, and then make an impact right away on the NHL team. Bennett had to have surgery and mop up the OHL first, but all three were big players for the Flames right away.

Will that be the case again this year?

As per usual the vote is up to you. Some see it as most likely to play, some see it as highest ceiling, others see it as a mix of both.

Happy voting!

Round 1 - Tkachuk 83% (http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=155575 )

I called Schneider the winner as he edged out Carroll in both Round 27 and the run off.

I'll go with Rittich. I've liked what Sigalet has had to say about him. Could be a diamond in the rough.

Mattson for the (surprisingly) 5th time in a row.

I went with Morrison.

Glad this one is close as I battled between calling the last round a tie and promoting two of them vs throwing Carroll into the mix to be voted for again.

Bastard may cause another run off though.

went Falkovsky. Big dman, with decent mobility, who picked up points (ie. not drafted as a "shutdown" guy), who's OHL coach raved about as high potential/prospect...

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=889983

Quote:
He was a fish out of water when he first came here, having to adapt to the North American game and the speed of our league,” said Brown, a veteran of 700-plus NHL games as a defenceman. “But he’s a smart kid and a smart player who after realizing he couldn’t rely on just his long reach started to move his feet and he became a very effective player for us after that.”
By season’s end, the towering rearguard who speaks little English, demonstrated he had no problem acclimatizing to the North American game in the nation’s capital.
He not only finished tied with overager Evan De Haan for scoring by team defencemen with nine goals and 32 points in 58 games but finished with a team-best plus-17 rating.
“Six-foot-seven and moves the puck really well,” Button said. “Fairly mobile and wants to stay in North America and play. If he was in college, he might be one of those free agent’s that in two years everyone is looking at. We think we got a head start by getting him in the draft.”
As does Brown, who was shocked his standout defender, who went undrafted in 2015 despite being ranked 44th among European skaters, had taken so long to come off the board this time around in Buffalo.
“I was very surprised,” said Brown, whose own son Logan was taken 11th overall by the Ottawa Senators. “You can’t teach size and to move with that size. The kid has a good hockey brain. If he can put it all together the Flames are going to have one heck of a blue chip prospect on their hands.”

I went Mattson, but I did so without strong feelings about it. And that vote tied things up at 29. Sorry run off haters!

Uh, no it didn't. Someone's vote for Mattson tied it up at 29.

I figure the Flames wouldn't sign a 23 year old goalie from the Czech league just to be a AHL filler. They clearly see something in him. That is good enough for me.

Going with Rafikov. Still think he projects nicely, even if he took maybe a step back in the KHL. He does everything well, and plays a really nice old-time gritty in your face game that throws opponents off their games.

No love for Carroll? If he puts it all together, he could be one nasty piece of bidness for the Flames' third or fourth line in a couple years.

Not a bad argument.

Plus I'm still going with "goalies are wild cards, at this point I take the wild cards".
