You're probably right, but from everything I can see, that is the wrong decision.

Ward has been a complete disaster so far as head coach.

The players are playing worse.
The team is playing worse.
The more we play other teams, the more they cave us in.
The results aren't there.
The underlying stats are terrible.

The only reason this team is anywhere near .500 and not in the basement with the Sens is because of goaltending.

Just because Treliving just recently made the colossal mistake of giving this terrible coach the reigns, doesn't mean he should double or triple down on that mistake.

I hate this narrative. Sorry, I know you're trying to avoid the negativity lol.

It does matter how it looks. Sure, this is a results-driven business, but the way the Flames played is not a recipe for long-term success. You ask any professional Coach in any sport, they're going to want to see how the team is playing. It's part of the process.

Now if the team was gutting out a one goal win or OT loss on the 2nd night of a back-to-back where the team had generally been playing well? That's a different story, as good teams need to find ways to win or accumulate points even in off nights, but the Flames are not that. We were playing poorly coming in, and we managed to get 3 out of 4 points playing just as poorly for the most part.

I think the flames played substantially better the last two games than the previous 3 when you consider the opponent.

I actually thought they were pretty good on Monday, and I liked the first period last night.

But I bet it isn't.
There are 4 teams who have scored fewer even strength goals per game than the Flames. They desperately need to develop a 5 on 5 scoring line, at least one to start. Last year and the year before they had two, but right now they have none.

Flames win 5-2 tonight and take 4 of the 5 against Ottawa while also getting revenge on the Oilers. Then this place will be thinking they are winning the Cup.

Yes. Rittich stole every point they got

The Flames got 3 of 4 points available, and the Leafs got the other 2

So the net of it is that Calgary gained one point on Toronto. If they make a better decision on an empty net, they gain 4 points in the standings.

It’s a big difference.

Sens 7 Flames 5. Rittich gets pulled after allowing 7 goals in the first 30 minutes. Zag comes in and pitches a shutout.

Ward is fired at the rink and has to take a taxi to the airport. He is replaced by GG and they sneak into the playoffs only to lose to Toronto in the first round.

lol

But no, other teams see us as a team that you can dominate, simply by playing the trap

Breakout game, 6-0 Flames and they play .600 hockey the rest of the way. Eternal optimist or just in denial? Little of column A, little of column B.

If Flames don't take 3 of 4 from Sens, Ward should be left at the curb in Ottawa

Just win.

Every other team is slapping Ottawa around like they owe them money and harvesting the Sens for points. We cant drop points to the Sens.
